Calling all drivers - Your country needs you!

Hi everyone.
This country is in a crisis. Everyone is being strangled by soaring fuel prices. Even if you don’t own a car, prices are escalating everywhere due to delivery costs.
And what can we do about it? Err… not a lot…
But we know someone who has the power to do something… that’s you, the fine lorry-driving backbone of our country. It’s been done before, a few go-slows here, a boycott there. Many people got annoyed last time it happened, but with the right communication, you would have the support of the whole country behind you.
We need to show that idiot chancellor that a minimum of 20p/litre should be taken off fuel, not a ridiculous 1p.
I personally spend 4 and a half days working every month just to pay for my fuel to get to work, and I know many people in worse situations.
I know it’s asking a lot, but WE NEED YOU! I don’t know how to go about it either, but please help us poor little car drivers!

Thanks for your time.

LOL.

Keep the cost of fuel for private use around the same as it is and have a 20p a litre rebate for commercial vehicles, free up the roads a bit for more important traffic :bulb:

Go on admit it…You’re Alistair Darling in disguise aren’t you. God help us all, this MUST be a wind up and the day I do anything to help “poor little car drivers” will be when it snows in July. I honestly think you’ve come to the wrong place, without wishing to sound horrible, but you are in the smallest of small minorities with your “backbone of the country” comment. Among your kind are many thousands of truck haters, “Don’t want them in our village” protesters and countless other bell ends who want to spout off about emmissions and such like.

If I take part in any such protest it will be alongside other truck drivers and not “poor little car drivers,” especially the likes of the cockroach who increased my insurance premium last year with ANOTHER dodgy insurance claim.

All the best though and good luck with your wind up, over to you Rob…

Okay I’ll bite…

Ah yes, the same car drivers that supported us in the protests around 2000… until there was no more milk or bread left at Tesco and then “oh those lazy hairy-arsed lane-blocking truckers should stop moaning and get back to work so I’ve got something to put on my cornflakes and something to make little Johnny’s sandwiches with”. :unamused: Short memory, much? So how about this - if you want “something” doing about it, how about you get off your own [zb] arses and do it instead of expecting everyone else to do it for you? :bulb:

Rob gets my vote for best answer.

At the risk of being banned from Trucknet, after careful consideration, due to my growing by the minute sense of fury at either being done by the worlds biggest wind up, or the utter bare faced cheek of your post, I have decided to modify my previous statement.

I will join “poor little car drivers,” not when it snows in July, but on the day when you clean my balls. There. I’ve said it.

Ahhhhhh, feeling better already… :smiling_imp: :imp: :frowning:    :grimacing:

Well if they want to have PROFESSIONAL divers help I think something may be able to be done say the second Tuesday of next week.

As a new member and stumbling across this post I have to laugh at the cheek of the poster. I concur with the other operator that the car drivers want US to do something about it, yet moan like buggery at us drivers with our polluting trucks (actually, our Euro 4/5 trucks are probably LESS polluting than your diesel cars! Let me tell you Em, most of us operators have to pay out quite literally thousands every year to the chancellor to enable us to operate our businesses for very little return. At present we are all moaning about the cost of fuel, but as you are aware, everything in the shops was at some point on a truck being collected or delivered. If the cost of transport goes up, it effects EVERYONE, not just you.

I appreciate fully that car drivers on low incomes are suffering, but as a haulage operator, we are all about to go bankrupt with these costs, unless the Gov’mint can introduce an essential user rebate for us all. Without this, the abandonment of the fuel escalator, and the 1p reduction in tax (3p rise in VAT though) is absolutely a kick in the teeth to truck operators now. Yet again, another Gov’mint that cant or WONT listen to what is fundamentally (as you put it) the backbone of the UK. Unfair competition from European competitors is also sealing our fate. The industry needs help not just car drivers. Without the introduction of an essential user rebate, this industry as a whole will founder just like the Titanic, but will go down faster!

Past differences aside, I couldn’t care less how many narrow backed Audi driving ring gear fettlers are along side us on the blockades for one reason alone… the roller skate pilots will get more notice taken of them in Whitehall as they’re voters. The Government only give a toss about re-election and if they think a VAT cut and a duty increase will appease Joe Public then that’s what we’ll get, not the other way round as we need.

The only good thing to come from the ‘Bodget’ (gedditt??) is that it was indeed a duty cut not a Vat cut as we VAT registered types would have felt no difference albeit a tiny change in the cashflow before each quarters refund.

My cheapest card next week is 113.85ppl and the saving is earmarked to buy me the nice Silver 580 Topline in Mick Moody’s yard

If you didn’t laugh you’d cry!! :unamused:

Don’t worry, after the demo and Government cave in, I’m back to the Arclid school of thought concerning motorists!!! drop it half a cog and let’s save them a few litres through co-operative fuel sharing!!!

Peter Carroll will wet his little pants at all this as he’s probably reading it on his laptop at Chequers this weekend as the guest of David Cameron and Yoda Haigh…

Just a view Rikki!!!

Mads

I subscribe to “don’t brake” brake theroy. By braking as little as possible you improve fuel consumption and save on wear and tear. More importantly by not braking you shove the Merc whos cut you up at the 100 yard marker into the ditch, he will save money on fuel cos his car is written off and if we all do this enough the supply will out strip demand so much that the oil companies will drop their prices to compete to sell their fuel and the roads will become less congested with bad german car drivers so we will have less jams and do even more to the gallon. plus I will have loads of overtime delivering new cars.
its that easy just don’t brake.

Disclaimer
my plan may have some flaws, you follow it at your own risk.

it’s easy to sort out.
just bring the fuel in from abroad.
qatar perhaps?

hmm im too busy playing with my car and destroying tyres to want to help any NIMBYS

Wheel Nuts Economy Drive. (How to save money on fuel)

Walk to School, take those fat kids on a bike ride. This helps in lots of ways, healthy kids, less congestion, especially outside schools, most of the people driving a 4x4 people carrier with a playstation in the headrests should not be driving anything bigger than a roller skate.

Make Friends. take your co workers to work in your car, use the other 3 seats and leave their cars at home, you can get a ride to work every 3 weeks.

Work from Home. Save the planet, you can sit and do your nails at home just as well as sat in a reception area. That way you wont be disturbed when an important visitor comes or the switchboard springs into action.

Supermarket Shopping. You don’t have to visit these places every single day to pretend you have cooked the meal yourself. You can grow your own vegetables and learn how food is made from it. Milk & beef or steak from cows, wool and meat from sheep, eggs and chicken from chickens.

Motorways. Keep off them, you don’t know how to drive on them, you only drive one junction but cause chaos in that short period. Keep the motorways clear for their proper use, moving freight for industry.

Planning Decisions. Let the developers build a chimney or telephone mast in your back yard, it wont kill your kids, and if it does the world is over populated anyway.

Two Cars. get rid of one, stay at home and look after your own kids, stop having them as fashion accessories then farming them out to someone else as soon as they can crawl.

If anyone needs a sympathetic ear to discuss this idea, call me on 0121 do one! :stuck_out_tongue:

By the way, on the budget thread I mentioned that fuel was still too cheap for private vehicles and many agreed except carryfast, but that is par for the course.

Lorries and road transport are the most important things on the roads, forget the hairdressing appointment, seeing your girfriends for lunch or having an affair with a politician. It is not important
