I think the bottom line is if you can earn six hundred quid a week working for someone else and the jobs alright theres no need to carry all the risk of being an OD and earning about the same whack, maybe a bit more if your lucky but a whole lot less if your not. Stick to the driving, I’m like you I had a demanding physical well paying job before I came into driving full time but going into the yard/site every morning when it’s snowing/raining/freezing is bloody depressing. Much better to trot around on your arse in a nice warm cab with the radio on.
Chuffed to bits for you Paul, sounds just what you need
Sorry to hear the ERF is parked up m8, FWIW I thought you had a good approach to the game too
Site work… not something I want to do again in a hurry, unless it’s backing onto one to tip a load worked for long anough on them as a sparky & got shedloads of grief from idiot site managers that couldn’t manage themselves.
Job sounds good, £600 a week is a decent wage, lets just hope he’s as good as his word.
onwards & upwards
Good luck Paul, sounds like you have landed a good un there.
well im a bit late here but
bad luck paul…
now…
good luck paul.
good luck
having tried to get the diesel out from under your skin? it never leaves, just goes dormant for a while, then reappears when you least expect it.
so far been away 3 times only to come back, missing the early 5am starts, drops, other drivers, banter, and being in warm cab with radio on.
paye or O/D when you leave the yard your still the bloke driving the truck.

to be honest, having run my own wagon i’m a bit sceptical that someone can pay a driver enough money so they take home six hundred quid! but i’ve known the bloke a long time and don’t think he’d spin me a line, all i can do is give it a whirl and see how it pans out.
Good luck and all the best for the future paul
Good Luck Paulb,
hope it goes well for you.
