After a long drive from northern Spain, I’d stopped at a service area about two and a half hours from the French port of Ouistreham to sleep.
The weather was really bad. There was heavy rain and strong winds but my vehicle was well-secured.
The next morning I arrived at Ouistreham and went through the usual security checks at the port.

Why need extra problem for self to stop for night out 30 min before???Must stop some distwnce before where risk will much less.

I’m not saying she’s telling stories … BUT … to me the news report isn’t telling all

I’ve been behind a wagon at Ouistreham, a curtainsider, they (security and Gendarmes) pulled out 10, these were put into a summoned van and taken back to the town, the trailer was checked out, doors closed and driver allowed to enter the port to check in and board.
Driver wasn’t arrested and didn’t spend 15 hours in a cell. Wagons turn up at this port, some are clean , some have unwanted cargo, but I have never heard of any driver , of any nationality, being taken to cells.

I thought it was a £2500 fine for each stowaway?

if she wasnt a splitass then there would be no news interest for the media of any description.
non event of the year that happens day in and out nowadays.mabey they gave her a dig cos it was a locked fridge and shes an o/d? ,but as usual an ott dramatisation of nothing.

Stowaways are everyday, I’d agree.
Getting 15hrs detention isn’t.

Not in Ouistreham, you’ll find that will be the case on the English part of Calais or in the UK itself.
There is no UK immigration at the port of Caen/Ouistreham

obviously her circumstances dictated a closer interrogation.
owner driver, female, locked fridge, even the frogs would find her out of sync with your average cross channel taliban taxi service.
and playing up on the fannypass aspect makes it newsworthy for the usual clutching at straws for a story media.

Loading Ouistreham Monday lunch time, They will get a shock if they jump on mine, I am not crossing the water

If you want 15 hours detention - take an agency shift at Tescos. :unamused:

I thought Lilly Allen was sorting all this lot out

id imagine that would happen after a psychiatric ward sorts her out?
at least she offered an apology on behalf of britain for not just letting them all come over free and easy. :unamused:

On my recent travels back from my jollys…i couldnt help but notice how quiet Dunkirk port was…in saw a total of 4 immigrants on the way…no camps…etc…it was empty …so if dunkirk can do it there …why cant they clear Calais.
I did notice that in Belgium now every one has to pre pay for fuel…dont know if it has any bearing on the migrants…or just theft in general.

I thought we ALL “pre-paid” for fuel?

You walk in, hand your card over, they skim it to ascertain it is valid, and you fill up.
The card has pre-authorised a certain amount, say £500 worth, which is then guaranteed to be met as payment on that card.

For private vehicle use, one’s own credit or debit card might pre-authorize £99 when using the “pay at pump” facility, so there too - you have an example of the fuel drawer having “Pre Paid” in effect.

Winseer, I found most places round Europe you filled up and then paid. Some you guessed how much you were going to put in and told the fuel attentant before filling.

Probably because they don’t muck about with loads of different cards and different bunkers, dkv sorts you out 99% of the time.

I’ve only ever used the unmanned “pay at pump” forecourts. If your card could not be blocked for around 60 euros (if I recall my last occasion to fill up on the mainland continent) - then you could not draw fuel.

I would not recommend for people to drive about Europe with only cash money, and an empty bank account - put it that way!
