Cab rat for 3 weeks and counting

Looks like Im being recalled back to work next week, albeit for 4 days (M,T,T,F). After a couple of false starts & being given start times, amended start times, allocated a job at the wrong depot etc, theyve supposedly got it right, though I suspect someone will change it before Monday :unamused:

But with the restart brings in the new pay parity rates, IMO which are arris about face.
The new M-F has gone up to the expected parity rate (+25-30%), but according to the agency :unamused: the Sat/Sun & B/hol rates have come down, and are paid the same as regular M-F so theres no actual time & half, double time etc, I only generally worked Mon-Fri anyhow + the odd B/hol, so it wont bother me too much, & if asked I guess I wont be working that job on those "premium" days. I do however know that the staff drivers get a flat £200 for working a 6th shift, whether that is a Saturday or B/Hol, so I will wait to hear what my bosses say, as Ive told them the above staff driver rate

Well 1st week back as a cab rat went better than I expected [emoji16]
1st went ■■■■ up due to one of our customers needing an artic , so ended up jumping in another truck instead of going to pick up mine , finally picked it up at 6pm then had to put my stuff in and stayed in yard the night
2nd day was a 650km trip , from yard via Lutterworth and Pallet ways at Fradley got back to the yard and was told get unloaded quick and got and load in Andover for Wrexham , parked at Brackley the night .
3rd day drove to Wrexham tipped then drove to Leigh Wigan to load cable reels ‘‘twas only there an hour then drove back to yard and got back at 4:30pm not bad
Yesterday , tipped reels then just did local collections all day and loaded some trailers in the yard
Hitched up to my trailer for tomorrow afternoon and finished at 5Pm

Well I’ve had another 3 boring nights out this week.

Stoke Wednesday …100yds from a good pub.

Whedon Cross (Minehead) cattle market…250 yds from a good little country pub with a beer garden…cracking meals usually.

Tiverton 500 yds from Wetherspoons.

(I should have been up to the neck in Euro 2020.  )
Can you see the pattern emerging?

On a 5 night out run next week (gonna be a shock to the system) so I may need some counselling.

Was asked if I fancied doing a full week this week, Mon to Sat (instead of usual Wed to Sat) so 5 nights out this week, :open_mouth: …a while since I’ve done that.
I would hate to go back to doing it regularly, but the week soon went in tbh. I got back in to that whole ‘living in the truck zone’ that I’ve done most of my working life…it didn’t take long either :unamused:

Ok, still not keen on sitting in cab all night, and not of choice this week as it totally ■■■■■■ down all week. :unamused:

Got prepared for next week, got Sky Sports switched back on at home today to watch the football, so will be able to watch the games on my phone next week while nighting out, so I’ll put a few cans in the truck fridge,…job sorted :sunglasses: (for now).

I did 5 nights out this week Sunday to Friday , luckily 3 days I parked up and got a cracking TV signal
Looks like I could have similar week this week coming starting tomorrow eve
Gotta keep working as the boss is sharpening the axe [emoji45]and who knows who’s head is gonna get it [emoji45][emoji45]

Yeh,.a couple where I am at ain’t coming back off furlough, but being paid off, much like any other outfit from what I’ve heard.
Tbf I wasn’t pressurised, just asked if I fancied doing a full week, it wasn’t a real hardship as I’d just came back for 3 weeks after 6 weeks off, so the extra cash would be handy.
I reckon there will be a lot of biting of the tongue for the next few months, firms have things all their own way now for a while…and they know it.
If you are daft enough to jack in through impulse, there will be another driver in your seat before it cools down.
I’m ot saying you need to have it rammed up your arse by them, but you’ve maybe got a bit less bargaining power for the time being shall we say. :bulb: …no chance of a pay raise this year either I reckon.

Back to normal next week, I can start having a 'proper tramper’s ’ night out, for a meal and a bit of socialising,.and a relaxing pint. :sunglasses:

Parked on an estate tonight, just been on a 2 mile walk and passed two pubs promising ‘‘quality meals’’ on the signs, but the beer gardens sat empty in the sunshine like some kind of bad ■■■■ apocalypse movie.

You can stick your cab hermit nights out up yer arses next week, you lot who do it normally must hate the ■■■■ job, you’re welcome to it. :open_mouth:
I’ve even started taking my old sun seat with me I used on Euro when ‘camion stewing alfresco’ in the old days, just to get out of the cab.

Anyway I need to get back to normality pdq… I’ve found myself uttering phrases like ‘‘sleeping in a tin box/unpaid security guard/I like me own bed me’’ :open_mouth: …and reality has kicked in like a shock, it’s suddenly dawned on me ffs…
I’m morphing into the most lowest boring type of humanity known to man (well, apart from Sunderland fans that is  ) I’m becoming a wait for it…

(wannabe) ■■■■ DAYMAN ! :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
