Recently passed my Cat C and only 18 years old. Not done CPC yet so C is not yet on my license but have pass certificate. In the mean time until I get my CPC done, can I put C1 on my CV?
Thanks.

Congrats on the pass. You must put the correct information on your cv. But your’e no good to anyone without your driver cpc - with certain exceptions of course.
So I strongly recommend you get your Mod 2 and Mod 4 sorted as quickly as possible.
Hope this helps. Pete
Thanks for the info.
I was looking at applying for temp positions on 3.5t vans which I can do on my normal car license to gain a bit of experience in commercial driving before jumping straight into a rigid. I thought it might just look better on the CV to separate me from somebody whose just passed their first driving test, but I don’t know how employers actually look at the CV’s.
I’ve got my module 2 completed and my mod 4 is booked for mid January, so I was looking for something to fill that gap. I think I might just wait to save myself and prospective employers confusion.
Don’t really understand your problem. You explain yourself perfectly well on here - surely you can do the same in an application letter. The fact is that you put yourself in a stronger position for a 3.5 van having had training to professional level on C - and passed the test.
Look for an employer who runs both vans and trucks and, who knows, you may just get a lucky break.
All the best, Pete
You should have C on your licence once you’ve passed CPC or no CPC, soon as I passed my C I sent my licence off and with in a week got it back with C category, then went onto to do my C+E passed that then that got put on my licence, I then went on to do my CPC after completing both my licences, so my answer would be yes put C on your CV as its a qualification you have already gained, then when you pass your CPC add that to your CV with the date passed

Was this while under 21? I’ve read that it’s only possible to gain the Category C on the license if a CPC is held. So what I imagine I’d do was hold on to the pass certificate until passing the CPC in January.
I’ll add to my CV that I’ve had addition driver training, than not to mention it at all I think, thanks Pete.
In terms of an interview, since I’ve never actually had a job interview before, what are they expecting? Thanks
You are correct in saying that for under 21s the C cannot be driven either privately or commercially without the initial dcpc but I do not know how the DVLA will deal with the OP re the licence categories without the dcpc
C1 will certainly be on it
Interesting. I dont know either. If anyone finds out, please post it on here so we stay up to date.
Done loads of 18 year olds on C but they’ve all gone straight for Mod 4 - some before the driving test. So not come across this before.
Pete
I called both DVLA licence section and the DSA DCPC section
The system is this - if the DSA tell the DVLA that the C test for a 18 to 21 year old has been passed then it will go onto the licence
The DVLA said that it is up to the DSA because they are the ones telling them it is ok
The DSA said it is up to the DVLA as to whether they do any checks before the C goes on the licence
Both state that they have no checks for whether the initial has been done before the C goes onto the licence for a 18 to 21 year old
So… if the new driver does not know the rules and nobody tells them then they may well drive a C LGV illegally without knowing especially if it is for private use because employers also have the responsibility to know this law and check as well as the driver
Well that sounds like a flawed system if I ever saw one. I appreciate all the help with this, thanks.
My last post does not include the C1 subcategory of C because C1 is age 18
Without initial dcpc the C1 can be used privately but not commercially from age 18
Chuck your CV in the bin. Employers are not interested in them.
At 18 it will be near impossible to even get an interview never mind a job, but if anything an employer would be much happier to have you turn up in person.

Have a word with Sam Millar.
I think he is currently working Class 1 and 2 and he is a younger driver.
He will jump in when he spots his name
Good Luck,

Indeed, I don’t tend to post much on he’d now, when you become a real trucker you tend to realise most of the people on here are just as bad as those that you hear about in your average RDC…
But indeed, it is no secret. I passed my Class 2 and 1 when I was 18, I got my first start for a council driving bin lorries, on both commercial and domestic waste collections. I then done various bits and bobs for agencies before landing myself a Class 1 start on fridges driving an Ex Stobbies Scania which I can now call my own.
Sure it won’t be easy for you, and you’re not being told any different now as to what I was first told when I mentioned to these guys that I was going for my 2 & 1. “You won’t get a job” “forget it” “just sit on your license for a few years…” But me being me I don’t take no more an answer, I persevered and I got where I am now and I can easily clear £600 a week and I take massive pride in doing my job.
I’m 19 now and been driving lorries for over a year now, and of course I get ■■■■■■ off with it and yes it was what I wanted to do, but you could do anything in the world and still get ■■■■■■ off with it every now and then.
My truck:
Mate, don’t get caught up in this "I’m a young trucker" stupidity floating around.
My son passed his C & C+E at 18. No big deal, there are plenty of others that have. Infact he passed his C+E before I did. I, like a thousand others, I passed my class 2 at 21 (that’s how old you had to be then) and that generation were classed as young truckers.
It takes many years for you to learn the ropes (so to speak) so don’t think that a “licence” makes you a real trucker. Some people think that after a few months \ year of driving they know it all! These are more commonly know as toilet truckers!
However, get your CV out there, and don’t be afraid to be honest. Bosses like to guide young drivers. My boy is now doing very well through his own graft (non agency) but has an excellent boss that guides \ helps him in everyway.
Everyone knows its not easy to find work at the moment, even for experienced drivers.
Good luck mate.
Thanks for the advice
I take it that persistence is key, especially at a young age.
I’ll make sure I get into contact with a few local agencies, then send out my CV to plenty of local firms. Was the bin lorry work through an agency?
Thanks again

It was but only because they usually supply them with bin men, I was just lucky they asked for a driver.
hi, am not as young as you, 24, but did my c and c+e in june and got a job doing class1 tramping for a local firm and he said he would rather hire a newly passed over a older bloke because then he can show them how he wants everything doing instead of them thinking they know best and having bad habbits,
Get your cv done printed off and put in envolopes then go round local places and talk to them ask there advice if they know anyone local that needs a driver. its how i did it, dont get me wrong be prepared for very long shifts but if you can put up with that its great. i dont regret doing it in the slightest.
