the following is a quote from the above link. so denby’s conbination dosn’t appear to be legal. but he is right about the 25.9 metre overall length.
Where a motor vehicle is drawing two trailers, only one of the trailers may exceed an overall length of 7m. Where 3 trailers are being drawn, none of those trailers may exceed an overall length of 7m.
But what about a 6 or 8 wheeler rigid pulling one 45 ft composite trailer?.But with a 44 tonne gross weight limit would it be worth the court fight with the government?.

Can you get your 8 wheeler Foden and a 45 foot trailer within the turning circles already stipulated by law?

If you see some of the places that they put tippers in and out of a 45 footer on the back might not be too much trouble ? and if the yanks can make those artics of theirs turn with their long tractor units and a 53 footer then an eight wheeler rigid and a 45 ft drawbar trailer should’nt be too bad?.But I can’t see much difference between an eight wheeler and a six wheeler prime mover like they use on those scandinavian drawbar outfits?.But usually a drawbar trailer will follow the line of the prime mover without as much cut in as an artic which is what matters most in the real world?.Anyway if Denby or anyone wants to try the idea I’d like to drive one and see if it would meet the measurements but a six wheeler prime mover and 45 ft drawbar trailer already seems to have been proven enough without flattening most of Gothenburg.

Watch the turning circle demonstrations on this youtube video let us know if you still think you’ll be able to do that with an 8 legger with a 45’ trailer on a dolly The requirements for turning circles are very strict and one of Denby’s biggest technical headaches was developing this thing so that it would meet them.
There is some quite clever steering going on at the back of that first trailer and without that you wouldn’t have a hope of fitting within the requirements.

And that is the whole reason for ■■■■ Denby wanting to get this invention into the public eye, he has apparently sold some patents or licenses for his design and needs to get the test case to proceed further. For that he deserves some recognition in my opinion.
Bugatti built the Veyron and it does 253mph but there isn’t a road where that is safe or legal to drive at that speed amongst other traffic. Ok there are parts of the Autobahn with no speed limits but at that speed you would be still asked, "can we have a word sir?
The big four Japs decided on a gentleman’s agreement of 186mph to stop the race for speed.
I am not saying that I want to see the Eco-Link on UK roads, but that he should be allowed to test and trial his technology.
Eco-Link or Eco-Combi may cost some jobs, but so did closing t’pit, sending the Yorkshire and Lancashire textile industry to North Africa and allowing the banks to ruin our manufacturing industry.
Like you Wheel Nut I not that keen on these vehicles on UK roads, but unlike the combinations used this one does seem to address some of the problems. If Denby’s can’t get it cleared on UK roads I’m sure they’ll be a market for the technology they have developed.
But maybe they should get thier road trials, but of course both side will pick what they want out of it to prove thier case, so it will still be inconclusive.

But if you don’t agree with the ‘overall length limit’ for a drawbar of just over 18 metres then why would you then care about those turning circle demos which I obviously don’t because I’m working to a different set of rules which tell me that there are no ‘real’ reasons why I would’nt be able to use an eight or six wheeler rigid pulling a 45 foot trailer,in just the same way that the Scandinavians can, except blatant protectionism for the rail freight industry. And the last time that the fair came to town I don’t remember them having any trouble turning similar outfits here even in built up areas. So all I need now is for them to ditch the gross weight limits and just have axle weight limits.

That’s not the point though - Denby’s whole argument is that he believes this rig is legal WITHOUT changing the rules.

I think it’s the overall lenghth limit which I referred to there (in that case for drawbars) but in Denby’s case for artics which is the one which is relevant to both of our arguments after that mine also includes gross weight and ‘maybe’ turning circle issues but has anyone actually compared the Denby outfit with a typical scandinavian wagon and drag for turning circles ■■.I think that in every case that a scandinavian type drawbar outfit would come out on top in it’s combination of handling practicality and weight and cubes carrying ability. But is there really much practicality or fuel per tonne efficiency in using a 25 metre bog roll transporter when a couple of simple rule changes would cover the lot
