Dotty D:
There’s a company called easy as hgv on the net mite be handy for you to have a look at the do class 1 training and cpc aswell
I assume you meant that as tongue in cheek as they are generally a broker
as ROG eluded to it in his post, i will come out and put it bluntly…
DO NOT BOOK YOUR TRAINING WITH A BROKER, THEY ARE MONEY GRABBING [zb]s WHO TAKE THE MONEY, AND THEN MORE OFTEN THAN NOT, DO A RUNNER AND LEAVE UP UP THE PROVERBIAL CREAK
ROG:
… or 2 x 3.5 because test day does not count for dcpc
I can’t see how that’s possible. Each days training for dcpc purposes must be 7 hours, not 3.5 one day and 3.5 the next.
Phil,
2 X 3.5hrs is possible, provided that the two training sessions are consecutive.
Eg; an afternoon followed by the morning of the following day.
JAUPT are allowing 2 x consecutive mornings for example as being ok for 7 hours - its also useful for some companies doing 3 x 3.5 hours over 2 consecutive afternoons as classroom sessions for their drivers after doing a short day driving

Unusually for JAUPT - they are being realistic !!
Usually for JAUPT, they tell one person one thing, then say something else to another person.
In other words, they’ve been known to give two different answers to the same question, so what you’ve said comes as no surprise to me.
Took 2 weeks off in July 2013 to do my 35 hours periodic and upgrade to class 1 cost me £1400 in total. 1 week CPC 1 week Artic 3 days training test on Friday, passed.
Problem you will have is most agencies won’t give you class 1 work because of 2 year insurance rule but you may be lucky.
I have refused all class 2 work insisting on class 1 and have done curtain siders, containers, boxes and fridges. I have averaged £11 per hour night trunking and £13 an hour weekends.
Finding it hard now though agencies lie to you and treat you as fodder. You fill a gap at the time and then they abandon you, so you change agency. I have now worked for 6 agencies and they have all made big promises but have not kept them apart from Adecco who said that Hermes contract would finish on 20th December and it did. Now struggling to get any class 1 work and have even been tricked into turning up only to find that it is class 2, multi drop and a run no one wanted to do! This is our business.

Sounds same as I,m hearing…Reason I,m thinking Stobys with a job at end of training (if this is true) may be a good option…
