C F Booth Ltd & LGV DRIVER BOLT TIPPER

Anyone know what CF Booth are like to work for?

Sorry to sound dumb  but what the heck is a Bolt Tipper??

I suspect it is the same as a ā€œbulkā€ tipper, only with a thick Yorkshire accent.

Its advertised as Bolt Tipper, I thought it was a Bulk tipper, but had to ask, Hey how hard is it to Rope and sheet those things? Roping was never one of my strong points, I was shown how to do it, but when I tried I failed :unamused: suppose its one for the old boys

.

The majority these days will have at least an Easisheet on I should imagine, if not an electric one these days, so just throw it over and a couple of straps down 'tother side.

That looks as if it is Boothies of Rotherham and they do a lot of scrap metal and do you sheet scrap ?

More likely down to the muppets that are employed @ the J.C. … don’t understand spoken English … don’t know diddly squat about trucks / transport … too busy discussing who said what to whom on Eastbenders last night :unamused:

Yep, probably got ā€œlost in translationā€.Might not even have been the Job Centre, as far as I know all positions have to be notified to them in writing, either letter or e-mail. Agency I worked for in Derby once put an advert in the Derby Evening Telegraph for a night shunter; it came out in the paper as a ā€œNight SHANNERā€ and the phone lines were jammed for several days by guys who didn’t have English as their first language, most of whom thought it was some kind of job in the hosiery industry!

Thanks guys

Its posted on the JCP site and states roping and sheeting, Ive done sheeting up and ratchet straps, but not rope

Will call Booths in the morning, Maybe Im not man :open_mouth:   enough to do that sort of job anyways   but would like to see what the job entails and then decide on going forward and applying

I’m going off on a tangent here but bear in mind the following.

Mrs 8W just bought a new car and the dealer hands over a leaflet giving 7 days free insurance so you can drive it away there and then. One of the conditions of insurance was that you had no connection with the scrap metal industry. I’d never have given it a thought but a few years ago I worked briefly for a reputable scrap dealer as a driver and if still thee would not have been able to insure on that deal.

Which leads me to think that when you come to reinsure your car and declare your employers business you may be in for a nasty surprise unless you are creative with what sector you place them in.

I dont sheet it when i do scrap could rip the sheet

During my short stint I noticed that the stuff heading into the yard would often need sheeting as bins would have unsorted scrap of all shapes and sizes whereas the stuff going out had been processed one way or another and was loaded better and would be less likely to need sheeting.

I take it you worked there then?

No, I worked for Easco now part of SITA.

I did scrap metal skips, but we also had roll offs and bulkers. I was only there about 6 weeks, it was a convenient job when I was put out of work and luckily my current job came up at a good time. It’s not an easy job, nor a clean one but then again nor is plant haulage and I’ve been doing it for a food few years. It wasn’t a bad job and I quite enjoyed it but it didn’t challenge me enough and didn’t pay so well.

I think Booths do more than just the ā€˜scrap’ side of it. I’m pretty certain they also recycle the metals back into ā€˜fresh’ billet and ignot stock and act as a metals merchant for resale to machine shops and the likes.

I would imagine that the roping and sheeting part of the job is taking the ā€˜new’ metal out to customers on flatbed trailers.
