C+E wanted next year

I’ve decided to go for my C+E early next year.

I’ve had my C since 2007, so would like to know has owt changed much in the highway code, or anything in the rules when on test e.g.

When I took my test, the trainer took me down some what I’d say crazy streets for an HGV! He then goes on to say 'I bring the W+D down here, and sometimes the test comes here! :open_mouth:

I questioned this about what if there’s cars parked (let’s say on a corner), and the only way to get round, is to ‘use’ the pavement.

He said it’s fine, as long as you inform the examiner on what you’re about to do, and really do your observations.

the test comes here!

It’s not normal for test routes to include any such corners. Some are tight - they should be - it is a test after all. Your trainer’s reply is correct though, in the highly unlikely circumstances.

The braking ex has gone from the test. I think the gear ex had already gone when you did your CAT C but if it hadn’t, it has now. (Does that make sense?)

The most major change is that some trainers now have their own test centre and this is, without doubt, a massive advantage.

I’m not wasting my time explaining changes to the Highway Code as I know you’re going to get a new one and study it - - aren’t you!!

Good luck, Pete

Depends who you want to go with can let you know the ones in this area if interested there are approx 4 in the North East that I know

Might be good idea to have an assessment with a few to see who you like best

Can’t remember the brake exercise Pete. But the gear ex’, that’s from a standing start, go through every gear up, then every gear down, I think, wasn’t it??

Animal, I was warned off TTS back when I took My C licence, too much negative info about them.

There is a guy doing HGV training etc from Sunderland called PTA, heard of them?

He’s offered me lessons and test all in way cheaper than either TTS and Tyne and Wear HGV.

Oh, and I still have my HGV theory book from back then. Will it still be ‘in date’■■

Try these

teamtrainlgv.co.uk/

He will do you an assessment on a sat will take approx 1 hr no fee

Think the guy form sunderland was part of Easy as HGV who were a broker name is Dave

Depends who you get at TTS

Be careful with Tyne & Wear as they tend to change trainers during your week so a different trainer every day

Warned of him too.

Just being bombarded by various info - don’t go here - don’t go there etc. :frowning:

P.S. PM sent

The DSA LGV test does not now have a gear exercise or controlled braking exercise

The reverse area is now smaller but is not causing any issues

As Animal said, Go and visit them yourself, what works for one trainee may not work for another !

Have a look at the vehicles while you’re there, mainly to make sure they’re not brokers

A few years ago I went through the newbies forum searching for recommendations for training schools and during that search I found posts where some had not been happy with some of the schools that are recommended

That could be down to the school in general but more than likely it woulld be down to a particular instructor or a personality clash between trainer and trainee

There are no brokers in this area just 3 main providers I know which 1 I prefer out of the 3

Hamils use Scanias, see them parked up on the Team Valley.

Animal, who’s the one you prefer…?

Hamill defo used Tyne & wear for my Cat C although ok had a different instructor each day I have also heard this from a couple mates & they wont be going back for there next test

Hamill is often 1-1 full days he changes vehicles every 3 years only used for training ( he is Irish so yep uses Scania easy to drive keep well maintained )

Would recommend you give him a call & arrange an assessment as will cost you nowt apart from 1 hr of your time this is free

Any idea what the test route is (roughly though)?

I was expecting to fail when I did my teat in Gala’, it was all VERY tight urban streets, with only one decent stretch of ‘open road’.

It’s since closed from what I’ve heard, and you have to go to (I think) either Berwick, or Edinburgh now…

There are several test routes with some variations of them but the instructor will take you on most of them

Nowt too bad tbh poss nowt that you havent encountered before

Probably driven them already in this job already without realising.
