C+E test next week

I’ve got my class 1 test next week, bricking it a little. I feel ok with the driving side of it, its just the coupling. Its a close coupled unit/trailer so I have to split couple and not looking forward to it, any tips?

Cheers

make sure the trailer brake is on

Good luck just over exagerate everything cant fail you for been cautious. Id tell you my split coupling procedure but i dont want it to interfere with what you have been tought.

Again good luck.

Stick to what you’ve been taught & be very careful @ roundabouts…

get a comfortable driving position BEFORE you set off, press and hold the brake pedal to the floor and turn every direction that you can and make sure that you can hold it to the floor, then do the same with the clutch pedal

a frind of mine failed because his seat was slightly too high and as he turned for the park brake, his foot lifted slightly on the brake pedal and the truck rolled slightly, instant fail

as soon as he told me what he failed on, i suggested he lower his seat by an inch

to be fair the coupling should be the easy bit, as it’s a controlled environment / procedure, no one else can ■■■■ it up for you. if you’re not confident on it tell the instructor you want to spend more time on it, write down the way you are going to do it with the instructor and keep going through it it your mind. by the time you come to do it it should be a piece of ■■■■

stevie (got a minor for coupling) boy   but i blame the examiner

oh yeah, good luck!

Dont miss the pin ffs! :open_mouth:

Be aware that examiners do not record minor faults only driving faults, serious driving faults and dangerous driving faults.

Are mirrors still an instant fail if you dont use them before you begin to move? Was when I took mine in 91 and il bet the test was easier back then!
Dont do what I saw a guy do in Exeter a few months back. Myself and the guy taking his test (obvious looking at the chap in the passenger seat) were both approaching the same peddestrian crossing. I could see some people were standing there and so approached with caution antisipating the lights to change to amber then red. By now we were both the same distance away, approaching said crossing. The lights changed, I stopped easily in plenty of time, the guy in the other truck sailed straight through the lights on RED.
I kid you not. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Check your mirrors as often as you can. Don’t rush things cos thats when you start messing up. As long as the examiner can see you are confident and in control, and feels comfortable with your driving, then you should be ok. Good luck.

Cheers all, one thing I forgot to mention is the instructor is a bit of a hard nut, lol my old man… Maybe the main reason I’m bricking it :open_mouth:

Good luck mate. I was bricking mine too. I spent ages getting out of a turning early on and thought I had fluffed it. That totally relaxed me and I passed with just 2 minors

All the best for next week…

Like everybody else has said… relax and enjoy it…

Remember your MSPSL routine , check mirrors 2/3 seconds before changing speed or, position, signal clearly in good time and for long enough to benefit other road users, position correctly as soon as its save to do so, Speed, control your speed for your intended manouvre, keep both hands on the steering wheel whilst braking in a straight line before steering into corners or bend, do all gear changing whilst in a straight line not whilst entering a corner, and look and act sensibly on what you see. Apart from control faults ,all faults in planning fall within this route, MIRROR-SIGNAL-POSITION-SPEED-LOOK. Remember when moving away from stationary always check your right shoulder blindspot as you release the parking brake. Good Luck.

Just take your keys in one hand and your bottle in the other and crack on.

It’s a bit like motor racing, or appearing in a play, no matter how nervous you are, once the green flag is waved or the curtain goes up, all of the nerves disappear completely and the adrenaline takes over.

First day today, went really good actually, enjoyed it. getting used to the Gbox (3 over 3) and like my old man says, Ive been driving professionally for 7 years so I’m not daft, I just need to learn to bend it and break it.
