C+E Newbie lands job on 1st interview

Hi everyone, the title says it all really, as soon as i got my licence back from dvla i went to a couple local firms and filled in some application forms. I returned those with a revamped CV highlighting any driving experience i have had. I went to walkers walking floor specialists for an informal chat and i was hired on the spot. wooohooooo

I had my induction today on how everything works ect and i start monday morning, whilst im looking forward to it im still quite nervous about it. Im not worried about the driving but other things like drivers hours, rest times, walking floors, safety harnesses and other stuff which ive probably already forgotten about :unamused:

I will be doing the same job that miket-t was doing, i actualy saw him today just leaving the yard for the last time so good luck Mikey on your next adventure.

The purpose of this post is to give hope to all newbies out there looking for work, there are firms out there that will give you a chance so dont give up, it will happen sooner or later.

Nice one mate. Take a note pad or diary with you Monday write as much down as you can, time in and out of customers, times you had your breaks (helps you remember when your 6 hours is up) end of the day write down how many hours you drove and how long a shift you did. Above everything else enjoy yourself matey! Good luck.

Well done mate hope it all works out nice for you and good luck on your first day

Great stuff ,well done ! Take it steady and most important enjoy :sunglasses:

Congratulations, Hope the first day went well

Good for you rubberducky

Quick update, the learning curve is steep, the first couple days were tuff I was so nervous and my heart was pounding all day but I have settled into it now! The first time I reversed this arctic was out of a garden centre onto a narrow road I’m glad someone watched me out as there was a little cottage on my blind side and I coundnt see ■■■■, lOl but it went ok and no damage done.

So I’m into my 4th night tramping nOw and I’m starting to enjoy it I’ve got some stories to tell but I’m using my iPhone at the moment and typing is hard work. I do a new thread when I get home.

I have lost all respect for car drivers now, the amount of idiots that don’t know how to join a motorway or dual carriage way is unreal.

This iPhone 4 is the bollix I highly recommend it to everyone as essential truckers kit.

I’m in central London tonight driving here was great fun, suicidal motor bikes and pedestrians just out jumping in front of you but I didn’t hit anyone so it’s all good fun.

Has anyone out there tried procab for satnavs it’s a upgrade for most units I’m just wondering how good it is as I had a few problems in Walton on Thames with low bridges they were bloody everywhere. Any info on the procab would be great, thanks.

Keep your eyes peeled for my new thread about my first week.

I’m glad it’s going great for you mate, Any pictures to come of the truck? Will be good to read the diary of your week.

Cheers

Jonny :sunglasses:

Keep up the good work mate :sunglasses: . I’ m looking forward to reading how you get on as well

Take care.

John.
