C+e grey area ,don,t get caught out

I know we have had this thread before, cause after reading it,I dug a little deeper into it myself.“MY STORY”.Been an hgv driver for 26yrs on class 2 work, gained grandfather rights for c+e with 102 restriction,(wagon and drag up to 44t gross only.)told by various companies that this was full class c+e entilement.WRONG!!.Even local traffic police at first glance said ok when I enquired. My own place of employment said ok after getting my licence checked by our tacho man.(ex taffic officer).Asked the DVLA for my own peice of mind.now having to take c+e test again to loose 102 restriction.Even when naming the test application, the dvla didn,t know what to name my application. This is a grey area caused by britain being caught again between old and knew.e.g.kilos and pounds, kilometers and miles, cm and inches, pounds and euros."HGV and LARGE GOODS VEHICLE.After all when a 24ft front and a 27ft closecoupled drawbar rig are rolling there is not much larger vehicles on our roads.PIONT OF STORY.Lawyers and the law love to go looking for grey areas when diasters happen or are caused, keep yourself in the right if you are in this position.

Many LGV schools have probs with the DSA booking centre for these CE(102) to full CE tests

The funny thing is that you can drive by yourself to the test centre in a W&D and take the full CE test in it then pass or fail you can drive on your own back again

I think it was 1991 (not certain) that the changeover came in from the UK HGV to the EU LGV

At that point is was decided that those who had HGV class 2 or 3 with free W&D rights should not get HGV class 1 (artic) for free but also that they should not lose out either

As the EU CE covers both W&D and artic then it left many in the situation you describe

The C in the EU means rigid and the E in the EU means trailer (in laymans terms)
This means that the artic unit and the WAGON (prime mover/ towing vehicle) of the W&D are both C
The DRAG from the W&D and the artic trailer are both E

While it’s worth reminding drivers about this it only appears to be a ‘grey area’ due to people who should know better getting it wrong

It quite clearly states the rule in the link below:

I thought it was a grey area because realistically the only people with C+E on their licence and not allowed to drive artic will definateley be grey, if not bald !!!
