I have my category C, how much should I expect C+ E training and test to set me back?
Thanks.

How long’s a piece of string! It really depends on what you expect.
At Peterborough we are £999
At Mansfield we are £1350
Both incl VAT and test. 10% Trucknet discount to come off.
There are many choices to make eg drawbar/artic, manual/auto, 2:1/1:1 tuition.
You will find some cheaper; you’ll find some more expensive.

Thanks for your reply, I was only after a rough figure to expect. There are so many options to choose from (trucks and set ups to learn with) its difficult to know what to do for the best.
You are right. It comes down to what will work best for you, because everyone is different! Were you happy with where you did your cat C? If you liked it there might be less stress returning to a setup you know, IF they have good vehicles and you trust them.
In general it’s considered easier to pass in a wag and drag. If you can find an auto wag’n’drag then that is even easier. That said - I found a 4 day 2-1 manual artic course (test on 5th day) to be fine.
A good trainer can teach any setup well and will make sure the equipment is in good condition so I would focus on finding a good trainer and not worry about the other factors. A good trainer is worth extra money too, as retests are not cheap!

Why is there a MASSIVE price difference, thats not right surely
Peterborough is new location for us. To “get it going” we are working virtually at cost. Peterborough also has restricted choices ie manual w+d. Whereas Mansfield is a DSA LGV Accredited Centre, it also has it’s own test centre on site, has a choice of manual w+d, auto w+d or auto full size artic.
Hope this answers the query.

Shouldn’t you be quoting how many hours this includes?
Personally I would like to know the ability and experience of the driver before quoting.

I think most including me would assume that is for a standard 5 day course either 1 to 1 half days or 2 to 1 full days as that seems to be the general industry norm
14 hours minimum 1:1 training. Can also be credited to driver cpc. We have worked on 14 hours for several years with no problem as everything is stacked in favour of the trainee in the way of vehicles, staff and facilities.
As mentioned time and time again in various threads, we’re happy to carry out a free assessment but most of our customers are very happy to take the course as standard. But, for instance, someone who has been shunting or has been incorrectly trained elsewhere, may well need less and that will certainly be offered. Also anyone who knows they don’t learn too quickly or is really worried about it would always be encouraged to come for a trial drive to see how they get on. No problem at all.

My advice is to have the assessment you could be paying for training you don’t need.

I do agree if you intend to use a different trainer from where you passed the Cat C. We use a drawbar vehicle for Cat C+E. Students that pass the Cat C with us are of course completely familiar with both the vehicle and test routes they will have on the C+E course so no assessment is necessary as around 80%-85% of knowledge needed to pass the C+E has already been learnt.
We will virtually always provide a free assessment drive to candidates that either passed Cat C with another trainer or took their test in a different location. As a general rule they normally require about an additional 4 hours.
Our 8 hour course is £599 inc test and the longer 12 hour course costs £799 inc test. We have to get it right as both come with a free retest day if the candidate fails. We generally do get the assessment right as our proveable C+E pass rate for this year is 85% 1st time and the remaining 15% passing 2nd time. Nobody has taken more than 2 tests this year so far.
Of course the choices between auto or manual, artic or drawbar, local or residential etc etc is the candidates but at the end of the day the trainers ability is probably the biggest difference between a good or bad result on the day.
Candidates tend to be less nervous on the C+E test because they already know what to expect.
Bank on 20hrs and you wont be disappointed I did a 16hr course for £875 and failed.I booked my retest for £329 and passed 6 weeks later
Our 14 hour courses have got a very high pass rate. The training has become more straightforward as two exercises have gone (the gear ex and braking ex). Also using new trucks, some automatic, mean that 14 hours is perfectly comfortable as a benchmark.
Pete
I did 10 hours C+E for £850 inc the test.
14hrs + test incl VAT £900 @ Peterborough
