Thats great news mate. I`m glad for you. I went in this morning, and being a Saturday I had a choice of a newish Axor or a 55 plate Volvo with 1200000 miles.
Paper tacho in the Volvo. Never used one for ages!!
The Axor has the worst gearbox I have ever used. Impossible to green line through the gears and just does not understand power to weight ratio, ie the computer has no idea which gear to use !
Shame because the cab is not too bad.
The Actros is amazing, but Mercedes has really messed up with it’s cheaper version the Axor.
Axor every single one should be set on fire anyone who enjoys driving a Axor has never driven anything else .
poor brakes to point you have to stamp on them hard to even get any reaction at all you get out of one and into something else i find myself nearly putting myself through window poor gearbox ecu there supposed to sense loaded and empty you may as well put it in manual and use it that way i find it much easyer .
■■■■ poor exhaust brake unless you rev the ■■■■ of it and then engine is doing job for you .
hittlers revenge and am glad am finaly away from the horrible things and if i ever have to set foot in one again it will be a day to soon .
am sure wont be first comment on here regarding the brakes on them or many other things .
All that negative what can i say good about it as cant all be bad i will get back to you on that
designed for shop deliverys and even thats to good for them
Damned good straight 6 engine though and hp for hp better than the woeful Actros V6, shame it was never mated to a better manual gearbox and also available in the Actros.
It’s at the budget end of trucks and does a really good job for the price.
Gearbox. Learn how to use it. Simples. Not up to I-Shift standard but not far behind. I drive over Woodhead nearly every day in wind, rain, snow and slush. Never had a problem.
Brakes. Again; see above.
It isn’t the dogs doo-dahs but it doesn’t pretend to be.

Stupid comment. Next.

That’s how an exhaust brake works. The engine does the job. A pretty good engine brake. Stick it in position 2. See; it does work. Read the manual.

The cab isn’t bad. Most of the new ones are the made in Turkey, white, high roof versions. 4 power sockets, basic air con, room to almost stand up in, plenty of bins to store odds and sods.
Anybody over 6’ might have a problem getting comfortable though. Seat adjustment could be alot better.
Would I buy one as an O/D? Maybe not unless price was the major factor. But that’s not who they are aimed for.
Didn’t like the poor traction of the few Volvos I’ve driven.
DAFS always breaking down.
Renault - OK, but why do they have to be so high up?
MAN - Ok for trunking. I wouldn’t want to do multi drop with one.
Seddon - Don’t go there.
Scania? Have not driven one for 5 years now.
As for Axor, which does happen to be the most common truck I get to drive as agency, I don’t have any complaints. Perhaps the step bulbs keep blowing all the time, but its comfortable, the radio is good enough, the bunk OK, no problems with the transmission compared to others above, and they always seem to be good enough to get the job done. I don’t even have any problems working the heater.
Been driving them 2 years, and I’ve yet to park on the hard shoulder with one.
Good simple tough reliable lorry without frills for posers so not so much carp to go wrong, never been on the hard shoulder with one either.
Not impressed by the auto box but then none of them are worth a light except for Volvo’s version, with the good old 4/4 manual box they make a competent economical and reliable lorry, i found the manual 3 axle 430 to be as good as lorry for general purpose work as anything else on the road 2 axle too rough riding, engine particularly good puller being able to lug right down to 800 rpm without a murmer and romps away from junctions like a good un.
Tag axle still under drivers control which is almost unique and particularly useful this weather, i had one in severe snow a few years back the thing just dug right in and kept going…MAN with satans auto the week before that got stuck in half an inch of the stuff not helped by the idiot tag axle, rocked it back and forth which overheated the box in short order causing shutdown till it cooled down (had that in heavy traffic too)…as much use as a bloody chocolate teapot.
