The first freight train from China to the UK arrives in London, having crossed seven countries in 18 days.
The train left the city of Yiwu, on China’s east coast, travelling 7,500 miles (12,000km), before arriving at a freight depot in Barking.
It delivered 34 containers of clothes and High Street goods.

It’s not a company I would consider looking for a job with…
Not that they would employ me(or other Dutch drivers…) I’m not from East of Eastern Europe.

well assuming he had no stoppages its doable even within regs doing 60km/h every day for 9hrs… oh wait what about weakly rest?? so the driver commited an offence. he should be detained and the comapny fined as soon as he reached first EU country.Sent from my SM-G930F using Tapatalk

That website says they don’t handle haz goods…
Gap in the market for someone who knows the ropes, and is at a loose end… ?
I wonder if they do exceptional loads, that the train couldn’t tackle?

Also it had several gauge changes so the train didn’t quite come direct…

Almost the Woodman’s axe. AKA Trigger’s broom.

If I remember rightly it also had a few loco changes, so the only part of this train that did the whole journey was the containers.

I’m thinking this must have been done as some type of publicity stunt. It would cost around £1,500 to get a 40’ container shipped DDP from Germany to China. Road transport would cost 4-5 times as much.Yes but air freight for 24t (say) would be something over £20,000 as I understand. (Might be completely wrong but normally I am not
). Door to door time it would not be far behind air, and a lot quicker than sea.
It could make sense if the delivery point was in the far west of China. In this case, shipping containers would only go to a port on the coast, say Shanghai or Hong Kong, and there’s still a huge road journey needed from there

I think it costs a bit more than that, at least for China to Germany, but it might be an option for those with timescales in mind, but don’t need the speed of airfreight. I got quotes to ship equipment to and from Abu Dhabi few years ago, a container was around £3000 door to door, but we had to allow 36 days each way in case of customs problems Air freight was £42,000 but that didn’t include delivery to the European airport and road freight would have been around £26,000 with a 2 week journey each way.
More to this than meets the eye. Reading between the lines this company’s website concentrates on intermodal, the unit in the pictures is chinese registered with an obviously Chinese driver. There is mention of starting from the Khazak border, well people have been there before and nowhere on either web link is there a claim that a vehicle drove from Shanghai to Poland only that the goods were transported overland.
To me this reads that either a Chinese truck and a European one both from the same parent company met in Khazakstan and transshipped or a piece, probably a big piece, in the middle of this trip was on the train. Either way it’s no big deal both having been done many times before, except that the collection and delivery were done by the same company, that is new.
