Bought back some memories
Yes those were the days. Oops dreaming again. The night trunk with the Bedford Arctic. I used to drive the Bedford RL boiling hot in the summer freezing cold in the winter, no radio no cruise control no power steering a permanently battered elbow from changing gear. Petrol engined I was in the RAF so very high loading floor tailboards that we could only just lift. Four wheel drive if you could get it in gear. A choke for cold starting and if it backfired you got flames in the cab briefly. On the plus side air conditioned (you could open the windscreens) skylight (you could open the canvas cover in the roof which was then a sod to get back on). You have to be a mountaineer to get in the cab, the seat was adjustable you just lifted it up and put it in the next slot.
Aaaaaah What luxury life is today.
I dont think im that old yet but its quite scary to look back and see what we used to drive and what we drive today, im self employed freelancer so get my hands on quite a few trucks the newest being the new Mercedes Actros lovely drive.
