Busy Mr Trump

Oh yeah…Loved him in Zulu alongside Hilda Baker.
Or was that Arthur Mullard.?

I thought Eddie Yeats was in Zulu along with Stanley Ogden?

Nah Eddie Yeats was in Little and Large.

Were Oliver and Hardy in “ The Italian job” , driving the coach off the mountain top road?
Double manning in the alps?

Was he in character? I don’t know if I would have recognised otherwise.

Driving a Bernard?

Was he the one in the middle?

No, but we shared the sauna on a few occasions. He used to chum about with the actor from Z cars who played Jock Weir (Joe Brady). They might have been a couple at that time. Even off stage he was a really funny guy, but camp as a row of tents.

He was dressed quite normally and didn’t stand out.
Many pedestrians didn’t realise it was Danny La Rue.

The standard of driving in Paris is dreadful to be fair.

Talking of past comics and actors, not many people knew how the Carry On actor Charles Hawtrey was an alcoholic living alone in a quiet seaside town who was vilified by the locals.

Or how the Dad’d Army actor John Le Mesurier allowed his wife Hattie Jacques to have her lover share the marital bed when John slept in the spare room.

Driving a Vulv@.

I think the relationship between Le Mesurier and Jacques was well known but certainly not the Charles Hawtrey one. Attitudes back then were pretty awful (and not in the Dick Emery sense). It’s no wonder so many of them kept it a secret ala Rock Hudson. Even J Edgar Hoover had to live a double life.

I saw Rock Hudson in an old film called “The Swimmer” it was very bizarre as he had to swim through every pool to get home.

Sounds more like a sex education film you’d get at school.

Dick Emery was a comic genius and way ahead of the times back then, I have fond memories of laughing out loud as a child watching the Bovver Boy and the catchphrase of : “ Dad, I think I got it wrong again.”

And the vicar with the protruding false front teeth.

I remember those classes at school, the teacher wearing a white doctor’s coat in the science laboratory telling us what happened in the intimate parts of a relationship, delivered coldly and as a matter of fact.

I couldn’t take to him back then but strangely enough a scene about the “bovver boy” came up on a facebook feed the other day that I watched - it was hilarious. My sense of humour must have improved in the past few years.

Due to my age the sex education classes at school were behind the bike sheds. You show me yours and I’ll show you mine.

I never thought Ronnie Corbett was that funny, it was Barker who was the genius in that double act.

The television entertainer fooled everyone by playing a camp comedian but in real life was straight and married with children.
“Chase me.”
