As this is going on we have in the link from @Ledwidge Johnson acting as an apologist for Trump. Sane-washing Trump’s statements, to make out it is a clever move to say Ukraine started the war.
Johnson said much in the past to support Ukraine, and that I do applaud, but his present stance, avoiding offending Trump is disgusting.

Trump is such a snowflake that other leaders will have to tread carefully around his massive ego, but that could go too far.
If Trump is going to be a enemy of peace in Europe from here on in, then maybe talking sweet to him is not going to do much anyway.

Hard times ahead for everyone…except less hard for Don and Vlad.

More than a few (not so much on TNUK) have mused about another attempt on Trump’s life. If he were to go that way then the backlash would be horrendous.

As it is Trump has withdrawn security from ex-Gov officials, and some of his disciples will be taking that as a sign.

Even if King Trump dies from a surfeit of lamp…oops…burgers, then doubtless that would be sold as an assassination by poison etc.

I agree with much of what you say…maybe not all.:joy:

Nice to see somebody who ‘gets it’ and sees things for what they really are, and realises and accepts we do not live in a pretty and nirvanic world, and who is not taken in by b/s fed to him.

As I said mate, I aint what you would call a ‘fan’ of Trump, (or any other politician tbh :roll_eyes:), we both realise they are all in it for themselves primarily, and are all open to lies and corruption, in different degrees.
The best liars and those with potential corrupt characteristics imo are those who do not get caught, so I tend to be even more wary of those who actually appear to be honest.:grin:

Trump kinda appeals to me (loosely speaking) firstly because he does not put up with all this lefty woke dog sh like we have to, snd has sorted it at a stroke in his iwm country, but mainly because I have a tendency to be drawn to maverick non beige unpredictable types, (being one myself I think :joy:) same reason I voted for Johnson, but we wont go there.:grin:

Trump was branded a criminal and got re.elected ffs, that appeals to my weird sense of humour, and I love to see the effect all this kinda stuff has on at least 2 clowns on here, (who will remain nameless)

I have always been in favour of backing Ukraine, but just how far do we go with it?..it’s been 3 years now with no sign of an ending.
As for Trump he is miles away, he maybe does not see it as his responsibility to be the main source of funds, especially as he has been complaining about Europes contrubution to NATO.
I also think if he leaves Europe on a limb by either leaving or disbanding NATO we should worry.
I would sooner rely on and lean to the US than the Europeans, many of which can not be trusted either.

Hey I drive a truck for a living, nothing more, I do not make a prick of myself pretending to be an expert, I just watch and decide my own take on things.

Basically a list of honest and reliable sources.

I think we should worry now.
Trump is not saying “I will stand by all NATO countries”, so will any potential aggressor think he would? Or assume he wouldn’t?
He is not a reliable partner, therefore he and the US are no deterrent from here on in.

We need closer ties with those whose security is tied up with our own.
We are nearer geographically and economically with Europe than with the US. It has been that way for decades,
We, and all of NATO could have reasonably trusted, Reagan, Carter, Bush, Clinton, Obama and Biden. We can no longer trust Trump.
We cannot trust anyone so fickle and unpredictable.

why should trump/ america support nato. they have paid billions a year into it then have to sort out the europeans time and time again. Yet when they call on europe to help them (911 afghanistan syria etc) they are shown two fingers pretty much.

Same reason we left the eu we paid billions a year into it and got bugger all back.

The USA does put more financially into defence than any other NATO country, in absolute terms because it is the biggest country. In relative terms it Poland spends far more.

Should the NATO target of 2% GDP be increased? Probably yes.

When has the US “sorted out Europe time and time again”? The 2 World Wars, yes definitely. Since then?

Did the US call for NATO or European help after 9/11?

Afghanistan? Who was attacking NATO countries?

Syria? The UK Parliament had a vote about deploying troops to Syria under Cameron, nothing to do with NATO of course. They said “No”.
After Blair and Bush in the M.E. was that a mistake do you think? Should UK troops have gone in?
