So trump puts a so called 40% tariffs on American drug companies outside of usa inporting drugs to usa

No extra cost to the European supplier just to the importer and the consumer in usa
Now i know the principal is probably to get the manufacturer back to usa
But at what cost to usa, drugs double in price and it takes years for a company to move production

So the answer is just realise a statement if you’re one these companies from usa saying you just have allocated millions to open a plant in the country of nightmares

Tariffs? They make no sense for the US as a country.
They harm global trade, but may harm other countries more than the US.
Everyone gets poorer than they could be, but because others get poorer than the US Trump shouts “Look! WE are richer”.
Global economics is not a zero-sum game. If played well everyone gets to be better off.
Trump seeks to make others poorer in the belief that makes the US richer.
Trump is getting richer by the way, but the US isn’t.

The other argument Trump has used is to replace Income Tax with tariffs.
If tariffs make enough money then no need to pay tax. Sounds simple.
So if the levels were set to allow that:
Everyone would pay extra on purchasing goods to either pay tariffs (import tax) or for the extra cost of US wages on domestic goods that are more economically made abroad.
But everyone (almost) would save on payment of income tax.
Now the rich already spend proportionately less of their wealth on things to live. Poorer people spend money on just food and accommodation.
It is easy to work out that the rich will make much bigger saving on their bigger tax bills. The poorest who pay little to no tax will save nothing but have greater expenses.
There are feedback loops built in too. Since the cost of living would increase due to higher cost of goods, wages would need to increase creating a high inflation cycle into this. Higher wages lead to accelerated automation, and fewer jobs.
Anyway the argument is that “We all pay less tax!” and that gets voted for.
Not everyone sees past that headline.
