Do bus drivers have to do a daily walk around check? I’m asking because i was on a school trip and the bus started to overheat because it was out of water. We pulled over on the hard shoulder of the dual carriageway and all got off into the forest. Then the police turned up They gave us an ■■■■■■ to a lay by were we waited for a second bus as the engine needed fixing. All in all more exciting than the zoo would have been.
I would imagine that they do - probably just a defect which could not be detected by the driver - bad hose etc…
Bus drivers do do a walkround check. But usually the oil and water is done before they get near the bus by the yardmen on big companies.I used to get in half an hour earlier to check at a company I worked for,and start the ones you didnt trust or that needed a little help on cold mornings.
Yes they do mate.
It involves pretty much the same as the HGV walkround.
The differences being things like bells (if fitted), secure and operational emergency exits and warning buzzers etc…
The water level should be visually inspected regardless of company size as its an easy check. Most smaller firms I have worked for, want you to do your own level checks anyway, as you should with a HGV
As has been stated bus and lorry drivers have similar resposibilities to do daily checks ,swap load security for emergency exits ,thats about it.

All credit to you for being safe and efficient but shouldn’t that be done in work time? Half hour every day over 5 days (presumably) is 2 hrs 30 min unpaid work - mega bucks on a bus drivers wage
Thanks every one I’ve wanted to know that for a while now.
