For the first time in what is probably 20 years I travelled on a bus, I had to have a retinopathy eye scan and could not take my car, they put drops in to dilate the pupil and oh boy was I glad I didn’t have the car, I would have been even more of a menace not being able to see properly - anyway back to bus travel: I wasn’t very impressed once on the bus, not with the driver (Iknow we have a few here) or the bus, nice and new and quite clean but with the passengers, some old dears on there but my god a lot of the people on the bus left a lot to be desired, soap and water doesn’t cost a fortune and neither does washing your clothes once in a while, I thought I had just dropped unlucky until I caught the bus to go back again and realised that this was a different crowd but there were still some hummers on board, it cost me £3.60 to do a total of just over 5 miles return, walk from house to bus stop and wait, then get on bus - 25 mins, travel time there - 20 mins (bloody lorry drivers holding the traffic up - admitidly it was stuck behind another poxy bus) walk to opticians get tested and walk back to bus stop 1 hour 15 mins travel back 15 mins (no lorries) walk back to house 15 mins, out of house 2hours 30 mins, in comparison, use car: drive to opticians 10 mins, eye test 50 mins, 10 mins drive back, 1 hour 10 mins tops and my Vectra diesel does 41 mpg round town so pennies in fuel also, all in all if I have a choice - no more heffin bus travel - well not until I have to

They are expensive, you have to wait for them all the time, sometimes you have to stand up, they usually have loads of people on them that smell of ■■■■, and these days your likely to get stabbed.
You dont get these problems in your car. It is cheaper in petrol than the bus fare, It is there waiting for you when you are ready, you dont have to stand up, you can choose what people you want in your car, and you are less likely to get stabbed.
So bus tavel or not? Definatly NOT
use a bus
now thats funny
Yep. If you interviewed all bus passengers with the question “Given the choice would take this journey by car ?” 90% would say yes!.
I too used to be a bus driver in the West Midlands. I worked for Travel WM (owned by Nat Express) & most of the buses wernt nice. Either old, uncomfortable, smelly, or a combo of all three.
There was some right low life who used to use them as well. Rowdy, ganger smoking, knife carrying. I can understand how the Average Joe Public would feel unsafe.
I also worked in the garage at a smaller local bus co. running mostly mini buses. I couldn’t believe the state that some of these things were in. Some literally falling apart.
