Bus Speed Limiters

This is probably a pretty old topic, but in light of the current events dont we think its about time the government reviewed the speed limiter settings on these big coaches. Some of these new double deckers are about the same height as me when I’m fully loaded and are carrying about 80 people on board. My truck carries one person but that coach with 80 people weighing about 20 - 30 (guess) tonnes can go 62■■? Something wrong with this picture guys… Dont say its the weight because new larger transits are restricted to 56 now too… What do we think??

i voted leave them at 62 ish.

it’s been well publised this week that they are the safest means of transport and to be fair when was the last time you heard of a crash like this

there are enough big vehicles clogging up the roads at 56 as it is without the coaches getting involved as well.

Im all for everybody in the country being taught how to ■■■■■■■ drive we all know speed doesnt kill its purely down to the competance of the driver.

Its time for Bi-Annual tests or something like that people need educated to drive to a better standard al they have to do is watch me for a while and they will soon learn…

A simpler answer would be to stop companies putting pressure on drivers to meet timetables and delivery slots. With roads so crowded in this country, it’s only by luck that you don’t get delayed.

not a bad idea but i’m buggered if i’m going to pay for another test every two years

I would have voted ‘put them back up to 70 and let them into the 3rd lane’, but that option isn’t available.

As said previously - it’s just too clogged up in lane 2 as it is.

They go in the third lane anyway so that option is irrelevant

keep them at 62 and out of the way.

Yes, but they aren’t allowed to.

And I don’t see why they shouldn’t. That was the point I was trying to make.

Put us up to 62 then as well, make our lives a hell of a lot easier… Doesn’t seem to cause the Irish wagons too much hassle going that fast??

Why not just do without speed limiters altogether?

What happened to common sense? Oh! a bend, I might slow down a bit here.

the reason i got no time for bus driveras is that they are limited to 62mph :unamused: , but everyone that comes past me is doing a hell of a lot more than that :imp: , they have got the fuses out, and i will put money on the reason that bloke rolled on the M4 junc was that he was trying to overtake someone, probably a lorry, and he lost it. I got no time for em.

Why don’t you get a job as a reporter on The Sun?

Stupid, ill informed claptrap.

agreed

I think its a balmy law anyway [i may be wrong on this as i have been retired since 2001]please correct me if im wrong. When trucks are restricted to 56mph and coaches 62mph and neither can use the 3rd lane and all got deadlines to keep, recipe for frustration if you ask me.

kindle530 That slip narrows down to a single lane because of probs in the past. Its also 40MPH. But only advisory. And on that day & time of night it would have been deserted. Its possible that the guy was on a mission.

i didn’t vote for either because i think they should be raised to 70 mph and allowed back in the outside lane of the motorways, you didn’t put an option for that and i don’t agree with the 2 choices.

I voted for the status quo, but agree that 70mph and allowing them in the outside lane would be preferable.

With many 7.5t now limited to 56mph lane 2 is already clogged up enough - why oh why were they not limited to 60mph to avoid the inevitable bunching? How long before the inevitable overtaking ban on dual carriageways?
