Because the time lost while getting checked can have a knock on effect, got pulled yesterday in Newhaven docks at 09.30 because of the amount of vehicles pulled wasn’t given the all clear till gone midday missed my tipping time in Tilbury next available booking time was 05.00 this morning so instead of being home this evening I am now waiting to load in Kent and will be home tomorrow evening 24 hours added to my week.
And how many hours have you lost over the year due to delays caused by lost loads and lorries having accidents due to drivers being drunk or tired from exceeding driving hours or not having sufficient rest?
Not added it up but pretty sure it won’t be 24 hours

why warn people, if they are straight its no big deal if not, lets get them off the road, less drivers or companies mean the possibility of higher wages and better employment prospects,
This is where it’s gone wrong,we all used to help each other not now, there it is,god help us all.
Is it right a driver that breaks the law or is under the influence should carry on his merry way and injure someone ?
I agree with bobbya here. It’s not about not helping each other, but why would you want to help someone not got caught who is running bent when the majority of us are? Same with speeding. If I pass a mobile camera I NEVER flash to warn oncoming vehicles. Why? If your driving within the limit you don’t need to take any action, if your not then do I really care if you get caught? Ermmmm nope afraid not. Was on the A75 this morning doing 40mph. I could sense the frustration of trucks behind wanting me to do 50 like in England. Whether I agree with it or not that’s the limit and it means I don’t need warning of a speed camera.
and there we have a perfect example of why theres no cameradrie left between drivers, though certainly not in ireland north or south.
if you didnt have such a road commander prick attitude, then as soon as you saw the tailback, you should have pulled in for a min to let the normal drivers get on with their day.
its fannys like you that cause accidents.
Why should he pull in, just because the ones behind want to speed…he was doing 40 in a 40…whats wrong with that ■■ i do exactly the same…stick to the limits, they are not a target.

100% correct,
Sitting@ 40mph on A75 is just being a complete bell-end and will cause more accidents as EVERBODY will try to overtake.
Sit@ 50mph and traffic won’t build up the same.
Sure Plod on A75 will tell you (off record of course) sit at just below 50mph and we’ll not bother as they don’t want long tail-backs either!!!

he’s not sat in some john deere doing 20mph refusing to move over though is he, He’s obeying the speed limit in place (rightly or wrongly) so why should he move over for the tear arses?
With regards to doing 40mph on the A75 it’s funny how on a Friday the English suddenly like to mix in with the Irish to get down the road for a decent finish time. You can’t pick and choose either it’s 40mph 100% of the time or flat to the mat but don’t be a self-righteous hypocrite.
Just my take on it
Every time there is an accident and the drivers drunk, drugs or driven for 24 hours rightly said driver gets shot down fair enough.
BUT putting a post up about "don’t stop here VOSA are checking tacho’s driving state or roadworthyness " doesn’t that only mean that bent drivers only go to the next services drive far too long and end up in an accident end up on here and the cycle continues.
Good let VOSA do checks and take the dangerous drivers off the road trucks are hated as it is without encouraging bent drivers carry on without giving authorities the chance to stop idiot drivers carry on and possibly kill someone.

Yep, I’m ■■■■■■■■ myself at the moment for the five infringements I’ve got from a few weeks back for going over 6hrs w/o a break. Four are like 1, 3 minutes over, and the other is quite substantial. It’s not that I didn’t have breaks just that I changed from a job where most of my shift is driving, to one where I’m tipping just as much, and I neglected to change the tacho mode to rest, because I usually hit 4.5 before 6.
I didn’t even realise the tacho recorded the wtd stuff, ffs. Thought it was just driving hours stuff!
What do you reckon I’ll get if stopped?

To this day no driver has ever been prosecuted for a breach of the WTD

Tin hat firmly on
I’m with you, I’m not advocating breaking the law willingly, BUT, anyone who says they’ve never gone over by a few minutes is a liar imho. £100 fine for going over by 8 minutes takes the ■■■■, especially as I had a recorded break right after of 50 minutes (20 minutes break recorded earlier in the shift) was harsh.
To me, this is what’s wrong with modern policing, I get that, yet you don’t have to drive down the motorway too far to find some Richard head 3 feet off the bumper of the truck in front, dangerous overtakes, elephant racing etc etc.
But no let’s sit in a service station checking drivers WHILE THEY ARE ON BREAK as it’s easy pickings.
I’m not bitter but it’s easy to see why you see trucks parked up on break on hard shoulders and other unsuitable places, if that’s the sort of hard line the they are taking.

Made the 0730 boat this morn by coming up the 75
“giving her the horse” but no children/animals were harmed.
If I’d have gone with “Team Grandad” and 40mph would have missed boat by considerable margin and left sitting on quayside grid for 3hrs til 1030 boat and outta spread on other side!!![emoji52][emoji848][emoji50]

It’s a limit not a target.
The paid by the hour beano said so, he’s Superintendent Road Commander, you know. Everyone else must do as he says.
I can’t remember the last time I didn’t give it the big shoe along the 75, it must take days to get all the way along it at 40.
the only time ive found that road a problem is the rare time ive tried to drive at 40 on it.
as soon as you hit warp factor plobber then when your not on the lookout for plod its so utterly boring that its only a matter of time before im dragging it back from the grass verge and the like.
incomprehensible that you could want to drive at that speed through choice, though when i had my mid life crisis and did a cpl years agency beancounting,i would drive at 48-50 on the motorway, and absolutely 40 dead on ,on any A road as even at that, you were always early for the load sheet.
tossco tell you never to pull in to let traffic pass, and just plob on as itl never be the drivers fault for a late delivery.
it got to the stage i couldnt stand the lack of self respect i was getting for myself continuing to work for companies that only pay you from the neck down.
the only exception to that rule was driving a bin lorry with 4 ■■■■■■ mental binmen in it around belfast.
absolutely a enlightening experience and should be on any truckies bucket list.

Not sure how those that do the plobbing actually deal with it hour after hour. Its just got to be the easiest way to fall asleep at the wheel, makes it dangerous as well for others who need to get going trying for overtakes on the brow of a hill or blind bends ect…

Your blaming rowley doing 40 mph for idiots attempting overtakes on blind bends / brows of hills , well I bloody hope you don’t bring your standard of driving over here , most stupid thing I’ve ever read

My standard of driving?? Where in my post did i say i overtake on blind bends/ brow of hills exactly?? And where have i blamed Rowley?? Read it again Dozy…in simpler terms 40mph is a boring monotonous speed and many get frustrated when its perfectly safe enough to go quicker, what then happens is some drivers take risks to get past…is that clearer??
