Burn me for being nice to agency drivers

robroy:
Why is it when somebody points out that someone is wasting a job and/or tearsrsing around to achieve this, it is invariably defended by the perpetrator of this, to automatically assume and state that the other guy was either sitting around in lay bys, dragging it out, [zb] ing about, taking the ■■■■ or a combination of all four :unamused:

Because as an agency driver I’ve been told far too many times over the last 20 years to deliberately drag the job out. One job I did, Britax, I dragged it out to a level that was unbelievable yet when I turned up back at the yard at dinnertime on the second day apparently I was four hours early. Should’ve known really as I’ve passed their lorries in various laybys on the A614 with the driver laid on the bunk with their heads well and truly buried in the pillow even as close as 3 miles from the yard.

Another job I did transporting caravan chassis from Beverley to Hull the second man told me that the driver stopped at a cafe for 30 minutes EACH WAY on each run.

I don’t tear arse around yet too often I’ve been at places and got back an hour or more earlier than the regular driver has even when I’ve had delays. I’m not going to ruin my reputation with companies hanging the bag out just because the regular driver wants to pocket an extra few quid. They don’t give a toss about agency drivers so why should I care about showing them up?

Was the caravan place in Hull, Willerby’s ?

I’m neither condoning or disapproving how other drivers carry out their jobs, mainly as I do not concern myself in matters that are none of my business :bulb:

Two points here if the drivers were allowed to do this I would assume their boss would be blissfully ignorant … and presumably happy with the rate from his customer for his drivers doing the job. Has it occurred to you that the co may have been paid on an hourly basis themselves?
Secondly if the time allocated for the job was accepted as OK by the firm, and they were happy, why did you feel the need to (what most would call) carve it up, especially as an agency driver you would be hourly paid. If what I suggest about the firm’s hourly paid contract was true, the only one losing would be you in your effort to not …‘lose your reputation’ the firm gets paid the same, the co drivers get paid the same, YOUR AGENCY gets paid the same, where as only you get paid less than what you could have.

Agency would not do it rather have my 5 shifts a week and not sit beside the phone hoping it rings .

Unlike you I’m not incompetent so I don’t need to worry about the phone ringing. It always rings. In fact it rings to the point I get fed up having to force the issue when I want a day off.

Conor is right, with some agencies in some areas the phone rings quite frequently. Usually to offer you unsuitable contracts they are struggling to fulfil. From my own experiences, I get fed up of telling them I don’t do shop or home deliveries, or long distance work. :imp:

When on a contract I chill out and take it easy, so I don’t screw up the job for the regular guy. Most vehicles are tidy, but you get the odd truck where I hate to think what the regular driver’s home looks like.

That’s not weird … Weird is normal on TNUK
His posts are utterly bizarre …

I enjoy the fact whatever the subject running bent, agency and health & safety get mentioned.

" Contraflow and 2 Stobart drivers teaming up ". And what a team it is. Humour, looks , intelligence.( And that’s just the ape ).

Absolute dream team. Lets weigh up the opposition. Hmmn. £8 per hour claim from war1974. Funny that, because its £8.38 plus £15 per day tax free. So war has been eliminated from the contest, in view of his talking of ■■■■■■■■.

Now lets have a look at the other clown m_att. A mat is there for one to wipe their feet on. Fancy being named after something you walk all over. KO blow for the red corner.

oh whoopity doo I missed the .38p an hour so your now on 7.5t rates.

and whilst yes you may walk on a matt, I have to say all I do to beavers is smash them
