That will probably be the reason why i know of no hauliers that use it, all the flip flops wont use it, neither do most uk companies , non that i have worked for anyway , always roll on -roll off and crack on ,onwards. I bet it would take a lot longer too unless you can specify what time/day you want a trailer shipping across It’s obviously cheaper /faster and easier for a company to shunt a trailer from somewhere in the uk to say Belgium or France and do a changeover and run back with a load from the uk if time is a factor (single manned outfits)

A firm i was on for would use it for time to time to ship trailer across to us when busy but (A) we was fairly local to dover so was a quick shunt and no need for extra trucks(b) they always had it in place that the customer paid the extra . They charge for the loading and unloading above the price of a normal roro crossing . The firm i work for now only sends trailers via purfleet , Harwich or if desperate Tilbury

When I was on Frans Maas, they would do unaccompanied through Dover but that more than 15 yrs ago. Used to have to wait for paperwork at DFG opposite the Wheelhouse, and it was a pain in the backside . I didn’t realise you could still ship an unaccompanied through there

Well from the figures published it ain’t alot, nor have i seen many unaccompanied trailers on the ferries that i have been on, The size of the compound where the put them says a lot, it’s about 50% of the size of the old Dover port truck stop was Frans Maas now there’s a name i recall seeing when i first started doing Euro work, DSV i think they are called today, well their web site re directs to dsv
Last time I went thru Dover there was a few trailers there Nichols ,firmins , 2xl , and the blue wagons that do the carpet . Also Dunkers does unocompanied . Even if they only chuck two on a boat there is still 5o ish a day go thru ( if thers the demand that is ) often on 1st and chucked to one side
Why to argue.
Just avoid calais and use Zeebrugge, Oostende, Hook van Holland or whatever till the France sorted there Immigration Problem out.
Calais is in France. Isnt it? And the People in the Tent Cities are illegal Im migrants. Arent they?
So leave it to the French
But if they didn’t think the UK was a softer touch than anywhere else then they might not have come so far, so not really only Frances problem is it ■■
But they entered France unlawfull, didnt they?
Unlawfull means Criminal, and,if the French Justice System works is it theres Problem. They cant let Criminals enter a other Country
Criminals shall be prosecuted and send back in the Country from where they entered France,or back in there Home Country

sadly that isn’t happening and is unlikely to do in the foreseeable future, because the French need to grow a pair first, but that may need a change of president hollande needs to go, he and merkel

Yeah, DSV(dfds) bought them out January 2004. occasionally see the name on an older trailer, but getting less and less
