Bulker tipping at supermarket

On Sunday I drove past the new Sainsbury’s at Stanway and could see there was an artic bulker tipping in the loading bay area of the service yard, I’m struggling to think of what a supermarket would get delivered in bulk except for fuel to the filling station, or power plants.

Any ideas?

road salt maybe … although it would need to be a big yard … or maybe they having some surface work done …

Grit or salt was the only thing I could think of, but it was tipping right near the bays.

It’s a brand new store, only opened on 1st Dec. I was there a couple of weeks ago collecting a machine the day before the building got handed over so all work should have been completed.

Walking floor with cases of wine :stuck_out_tongue:

or ice cubes

some tippers can accomate pallets 2 across
funnily enough i was a Sainsburys when they had place in Rugby
and 3 of Nobbys turned up with 72 pallets of wine
apperently short of bulk work so were sent over with a pallet job

Only a wild guess here,

flour for the instore bakery, other than that iam at a loss.

It was literally tipping which is why I noticed it, so that rules out any non bulk product.

Flour crossed my mind but that much? and would it not be sacks on a pallet?

I reckon flour would only be in a bulk vacuum tanker. My money would be on road salt.

Mike C mentioned a while ago how the Tesco warehouse staff seemed to load the cages with a shovel.

Perhaps they’ve just dispensed with the cages altogether.

jeeeesh i could tell you some storys about tesco loading bays ( the supermarkets and superstores i mean ) and the state of some of them , i was actually shocked by what i’v recently seen . they like to give a good impression to the shoppers at the front door …but jeeeeesh… its shocking. :open_mouth:

tesco’s should be ashamed of themselves … but i doubt they will.

I drive for Sainsbury’s and I’m at a loss as to what it could have been…Sainsbury’s get both their salt and their bakery flower delivered is sacks placed on a roll cage.

i reckon this time of year it has to be easter eggs

seriously it may have been shopping trolleys :bulb:

defo not flour.

I would say it was salt I took a load few years ago that was going to sainsburys stores 5 ton at each if my memory serves me right.

eggs.

I too thought flour would only be in a silo type tanker, but wasn’t sure.

I figures it was rock salt so they could keep their brand new supermarket open for business, I just wondered if it was a regular delivery of something that only I knew nothing about.

Cheers for the replies.

Spuds to be bagged for onward delivery to shops?

Ken.

We have been delivering salt to a couple of supermarkets and a TNT hub and thats all done in a tipper

Perhaps it was unloading the night shift, ready for the day shift to climb in for a kip.
