And an old Dodge, the one with the clattery ■■■■■■■ V6. Quite an advanced
cab for its day, I had an artic in the 60s and wondered at all the space and
vision. The cab was set forward of the engine and so most of the hump was
out of the way, not quite flat floor across cab access, but pretty good at the
time. But the racket that ■■■■■■■ made climbing up the main street in
Ilkeston with a full load of asphalt blocks from Matlock on a Saturday morning
made the shoppers run for cover. Should have collected some commission
off the shopkeepers.
Later I had a 6 wheel tipper version, one of Maurice Braddock’s 2 vehicle fleet
working for Dixons of Derby. He went on holiday leaving me to work it but I
parked it up after getting done for obliterating the M1 with smoke.
Just noticed the Moggie Minor van with the follow me sign. A fantastic
workhorse, we earned a fortune with one in the 70s on last minute express
work at 10p all up mileage.
Nice pics, remember the old road rollers!
Learned to drive in moggie minor van.It was x gpo,an MOT failure that my brothers bought for 10 quid.local farmer let us run it around his fields.Eventually we had the doors off the back and attached to the back chassis with a length of rope for “sledging”.All good fun,but ended in tears when the vicars son fell out the back and broke his arm.
