just seen the thread about the changing of the clocks and have had a thought…
i start work again on friday morning and will be working all weekend until tuesday afternoon. in my unit i have an analogue tacho, the old, old type with the key in the top to open it, and was wondering what to do about the time on it? can the driver change the time on them? if you can how do you do it?
also when do i change it? when i start or finish my saturday night/sunday morning shift or do i just leave it and change it on the tuesday when i start my weekly rest? but if i leave it until the tuesday my timings on my tachos will all be out for the latter half of my working week.

what do i do?
any pointers/advice appreciated
what i would do mate is change the time on Sunday morning as you start work
to cange the time open the draw and you will see a white wheel on the left i think side you rotate it till the time changes
if you are driving at the time of the change wait till you stop and start in the morning and then change it
put on the back of you charts summer time change to GMT there will under stand
would like to add just cos you got an extra hour don’t you consider it as normal and have you normal rest so if you finished work say 5 am BST cos you would not have change it yet, you have to have a rest of 11 hours you would not be allowed to start till 4pm GMT hope you get my meaning

i will be driving during the change so i guess you mean at the end of my shift (during daily rest with no chart in)

i was going to ask that but i gathered i would have to do that anyway

not too sure on what you are saying there…
i will more than likely start at about 2130 on saturday and work until about 1000 on sunday, im guessing that you are saying that if i do finish at 1000 that i still need to have a daily rest until 2100 (if taking 11 hours) but surely i could, if i need to, start again, in theory, at 2000 (as i put the clock back an hour so i have still had an 11 hour rest as i have noted on the chart that i changed from BST to GMT during previous daily rest.

if you put the clock back you saying you did not work from 9 am till 10 am but you did so you could not start till 21 hours cos you must show 11 hours
I think what he is trying to say is that you need to be sure to have 11 (or 9 if you have a reduction available) hours of actual rest time, even if the clock changing halfway through the rest means it works out to 12 hours on the clock. This is more likely to be an issue in the spring when the clocks go forwards as you “lose” an hour and so a rest that you might quickly work out in your head to be (for example) 45 hours might only be 44 actual hours.
For example over the weekend when the clocks change in spring, you might run in on saturday morning, finishing at 0900, and intend to start work again at 0600 on monday morning. Any normal weekend that would be a 45 hour full weekly rest, but on that particular weekend because of the clocks going forwards it would only be 44 hours and if you wanted/needed a full weekly rest you would have to wait until 0700 on monday to start.
Simple answer, wind the clock back when you finish your shift on Sunday morning, after you have removed your chart, so the clock is either correct for another driver who might use the vehicle during the day or for you when you start your next shift Sunday evening.
No need to write anything on the chart about BST/GMT.
