BRYAN HAULAGE

robthedog:
Interesting thread but its hard work trying to de code it !

Hi just thought I’d answer your thread
Bryan’s had a quick turn around of drivers some would start on a Sunday do a week then never be seen again, if you were there for awhile it was easier to go by what truck you drove as you never got chance to remember their names hope this explains cheers Monty

Monty, good to hear from you mate,

I was a part timer when you were there, used to do the Saturday Milton Keynes run a lot. and then all sorts of other stuff during the week
after work.
I seem to remember the Bryans week was 192hours + overtime unpaid ■■

I knew Paddy was ill, Rodney said he thought it was only time, a few months ago, still does’t make it any less of a shock.,
He first started driving with a firm called Passmoores based in the middle of Okehampton, i met him when I used to ride with
my uncle to Avonmouth as a kid, in the 1960’s, must have worked for PJ for years I remember when they used to do bales and fertiliser
with old leyland Marathons and Bufflalo’s

I still keep in touch with some of the gang although its a bit harder now I live in the Scottish Highlands.

I worked full time till 2002 but then family came along and I went to work at Heinz. what a waste.

You were the one who made the toast to Billy at RW’s leaving do, I’ll never forget that !

I agree they were good days, sometimes RW used to drive people insane, and I think that might be why so many came and went.

I still get a nervous twitch when I hear that Nokia ring tone

Got any pics, mine aren’t good enough

My name’s Clive,

Keep in contact

It looks like its been a while since anyone has been on here but WOW…

Don’t know why after so many years I done this search but it has brought back alot of memories…

I’m Scots Billy’s son (or as he was know back in the day of the CB he was King Billy - for obvious reasons to all who knew him)

To read his name again and to listen to your passion was amazing and I’d like to pass on my thanks from my family. The toast that Monty made at the yard!!! we never knew about this and it genuinely brought tears to my eyes. To all who came up to Scotland for the funeral I never ever got to shake all your hands.

To Rodney Jewell - you have no idea how much your cards meant to my mum and again I could never thank you enough for them. Because of you I have for the past 11 years been sending a card to a bereaved colleagues family

It was 27th August 1996 on the A419 as you said carrying a load of chocolate bars (Picnics believe it or not) when due to lots of individual circumstances it happened. After leaving the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Swindon I drove up to the A419 and can vividly picture the morning after scene as people were gathering boxes and boxes of chocolate unaware of what had occurred during the night. The road was being upgraded so lots of roadmen about and they came over to enquire why I was standing watching what was going on (they thought I was a cop) . I told them who I was and an older Irish fella got a bit angry and basically told everyone to get off the area and away from the scene, a few members of the public got a bit iffy with him but were escorted away only to come over and apologise. Sifting through the little bits of wreckage that was left I amazing found his brush ( to all who knew him…he had hardly any hair and I keep it to this day) I also found one of the trailer tags and again it is nailed on the wall under my stairs.

I’m down in Truro in a few weeks time so I will think of you all

Guys…thank you so much

cheers and safe journeys wherever you are going

If that’s the firm with the white MAN’s,I saw some of their motors parked up on Exeter services about 12 months ago,I got the impression they were running from there!

This is one of the motors I was referring to, just found this pic.

Wow loads of memories flooding back now, I know this thread has been dead for a while but thought it was worth a reply. I worked here from 2003 TIL the end in December 2009.
Honestly I was told don’t work for those cowboys etc but I actually had a great time and learned loads from the legend paddy and the 100 a day smoker bobby.
Started off in the MAN R116 OTT which was set to 85 km as apparently Bryan’s had fallen out with tuckers so they did it deliberately or so I’m told then got R113 before being promoted to the new TGA WA03 XTH and WA53 JUV used to love the comfort shirt gearbox in those. The old f2000 was a good truck just no space but the 1 roadhaus they had was a great bit of kit S517 ATA
I was then given a brand new FH12 WJ55 BWL which was a massive step up.
Anyway any other ex drivers on here give me a shout would love to catch up
RIP Paddy
