Documentary television company Wild Pictures has been commissioned by ITV1 to make a film about British people who have found themselves in prison abroad. The stories and experiences of those who are struggling in extremely difficult situations are the heart of the film. Various organisations have told me to look at cases of British truck drivers falling foul of the law on the continent, often through no fault of their own.
I would be very interested to speak with anyone who has experience of this, or who currently has a family member or a friend currently serving time overseas. Our conversations at this stage will be kept completely confidential and in no way commit you or your loved one to taking part in our project.

Do we fit the stereotype of the type of people who get banged up abroad or is that just what you want to portray?
How many doctors or lawyers forums have you visited asking about their experiences in foreign jails?
All joking aside. Being locked up is no fun for anyone, Let alone the hundreds of innocent lorry drivers.
Most lorry drivers are just your average hard working family men, They’re not your hardened criminals that look at a couple of years inside as a break. These drivers have usually been stitched up and need support.
They have mortgages and families that rely on them.
It’s bad enough doing time in an English prison, But doing the same time abroad could easily send someone over the edge.

Trailers with TIR cords have a recorded seal number.Once loaded, the driver would be liable for loss of the load if the seal was broken by the driver so he can open every item on the trailer to check for illegal items on the trailer that have hidden.
If it was a machine, you would have to take it apart to make sure there was nothing stashed.
Onion pallets, impossible to check.
