British Truckers Face Migrant 'Nightmare'

Frustrated truckers have described an increasingly chaotic situation at Calais, saying they feel vulnerable as migrants, some reportedly armed with knives, try to board their lorries. Reports of numerous lorry drivers being assaulted.

what’s the most hostile situation you’ve ever been involved in? Calais or anywhere on the road for that matter?

Ex-missus. Very hostile situation.

I pulled into addinkerke rest area Calais bound one summer nite for a break and a crs minibus pulled in just after me . to my and my Mrs surprise they pulled out 3 immigrants from the van and put them into the back of what looked like a eastern European trailer the driver was protesting but no joy this was 2003 . it was bad then and been getting worse since . what chance do we have when the French clearly arnt bothered and our government are scared to tell the French to get it sorted . when a Brit driver or for that matter any get badly hurt its to late or how many will it take ■■? Feel sorry for anyone running the gauntlet for what should be a present trip glad I don’t do it any more … It’s hard enough room the job without all this ■■■■ to contend with,…

if your running a fridge and in any doubt, then after shouting, out, vamoose, schnell schnell, raus, avanti,or whatever you like, lock them in and give them 10 mins of minus 25…give them another chance to leg it,and if no luck, then lock them in again for another 10 mins of minus 25…after the third time, when you open the back doors, their fillings will come rattling out immediately followed by the chilled to perfection taliban…on a similar topic, i asked one of the “security” guards at calais a while ago why his guard dog was frantically eating another dogs ■■■,licking and chewing it…he told me it had recently savaged a illegal who had jumped down from the trailer further up the queue, and that was the easiest way to get the taste out of its mouth. true story…

Let 'em out… you’re too soft. Besides, they’re real easy to slide out when they’re frozen solid.

Show a bit of compassion man ffs, and for all the thousands of them waiting to come to here for our benefits system in the land of milk an honey. Lets hope they settle comfortably within the ghettos they create and lead a good and honest life and repay the costs of US keeping them until they do !!!

No apologies for this double post…

I know people who arrived here to escape Amin’s Uganda, or Pol Pot’s Cambodia etc. Like the current set of “new arrivals” - the ones that “made it” were the ones that spent the most money - on conventional means of travel, as not much attempt was made to stop people leaving the countries in question - people merely had “nowhere official to go” when they HAD left.

Even then, someone like Idi Amin was a dictator of our own making - like a few around today.
Going back to “those I know” - they are all well-heeled people - the moment they arrived. Property owners, farmers, doctors, engineers - rather than random flotsam with no skills that could get them a job in a supermarket - let alone anything paying enough to render one “off benefits for all time”.

What happens to the illegal migrants when they are captured in the backs of wagons in Folkstone, Toddington, etc?
We know what happens to the hapless driver - they get fined £2000 per bod found! A Great money spinner for the authorities eh?
… There’s no way all such illegals thus rounded up get put straight back on a slow boat to somewhere safe on the same continent they originally came from…
They’ll be quietly set up with a squalid but high-priced flat on housing benefits and told that despite there being no JSA for them - they WILL get tax credits - as soon as they get a job…

Roll on 24 hours, and time to contact a “local pillar of the community”…

“Me pencil sharpener for 30 hours a week on minimum wage at Gomo’s Halal Hardware Stores”…

(“Me pay £30 a week to Mr Gomo who pretends to employ me. Me get £226 a week in tax credits. Me haff £196 aweek keep and Nice Mr Gomo only ask me to work about 4 hours per week, and pop down shop at short notice if any fella in suit turn up asking for me…”)

What is anyone to do to stop this, by now, endemic waste of taxpayer’s money?

If Blood were Money - we are bleeding out of all orifices right now.

We’ve GOT to distill one type of “migrant” from the other - The “illegals” from the “bona fide”.

Anyone turning up here claiming asylum who is NOT under a fatwa - needs to be deported.
Anyone turning up here without any skills expecting our streets to be paved with gold - needs to be deported.
Anyone turning up here who is already a criminal (let alone has just become one by being an “illegal immigrant”) - needs to be deported.

If we can’t talk them out of risking their lives to come here - then we either get nasty to put them off coming here (None of us wants to emigrate ourselves to North Korea - right?)
…Or…
We scrap all benefits for those arriving here with no well-paid job lined up, and round up the vagrants that will surely follow… Even then - we’ll have need to reform the PRISON system at that point. Chain gangs and other “hard labour” spring to mind. Put 'em to work and kill two birds with one stone - the new arrivals in jail, plus the idle TV-Watching Pool-Playing prison population already in residence at HM Jails around the country… :smiling_imp:

^^^^^^ Yup, that man gets my vote.

The fact is the country is already facing an over population time bomb at least in terms of the amount of money and resources per head as opposed to our wealth creating industrial sector. While even the Unganda situation was more a case of selective economic migration than so called ‘aylum’ being that the deported Asians could/should have been returned to their original ethnic Asian homeland.IE the issue isn’t one of what ‘type’ of immigration to allow in the fact is it’s time to say enough we’re already over populated now let alone adding to that population with a potential enemy in the long term.

I seriously feel sorry for all drivers that have to put up with all that ■■■■■ while they’re simply trying to earn a living. As far as box trailers are concerned, a real simple idea could be to put extra padlocks up high on the barn doors while they’re on the loading dock… or is that so simple as to be stupid ?

Why does anyone want to drive a truck through Calais? The pay you get is utter ■■■■■■

I could understand if you guys were getting paid very well for it, but you’re not.

Hardly worth risking the big fines you’ll be getting for being caught with any of them foreigners in the back of your trailer, is it!

You’re all your own worst enemy

Ever wondered why one never has to drive through Calais on Agency? :sunglasses:

I wouldn’t have a problem with it if I were paid a decent hourly rate and by the hour… 140 hours a week, over half of it sitting in operation stack on paid POA? - Think of the money!

…Then realize that it is very cash bonanza that actually prevents agency ever being given such a crappy job as driving through Calais has now become…
How many of the Brit full time euro trampers - will be seeking a “domestic” job for full time - once they’ve experienced this just the once here?

I can’t see the situation crossing the channel improving any time soon alas. :frowning:

Not for the next 6-8weeks at least as it’s tourist season, and we know how the Ferry & train operators favour them , the freight faces further delays whilst the tourists continue they journeys without much of or any problems,

I don’t think the agencies will be full of international work with supermarket work/local multi drop/building deliveries etc turning into a dead man’s shoes situation just yet. :unamused:

However.‘If’ you were to say the few international operators we’ve got left, putting increased pressure on the ferry services,to improve the situation regards alternative route and re routing capacity, that might be understandable. :bulb:
