The F12 ballast tractor was on internal work pulling solid tyred trailers between departments.

Nice shot of the F12. The first thing that struck me was the ballast body - it looks very similar to the ones on the old Parkgate Iron & Steel Company ERF “Sabrina” 100 tonners. Could they have been transferred from one to the other when the ERFs were replaced? The Volvo is lettered for Rotherham, so it’s a possibility.

I’m sure i remember seeing that F12, many years ago at the huge Templeborough site in Rotherham.

hi everybody superb marathon photo it must be one of the last reg.i know swains had some x reg.will try & put some more rotherham marathons on.re the volvof12 plenty more photos to come & spot on re the ballast box they were recycled from the sabrinas via guy big js-first tractors were a couple of scammels then the sabrinas then big js (■■■■■■■ sorry bewick)then first of the volvos (photo)all of which my dad drove & he took some photos. i started in 1970 till 2001&started on the external fleet then on the billet tractor volvos with volvo torque converters fleet nos 118-121 then second generation volvos with zfgearbox & torque converter fleet nos122 123 124 then finaly when volvo could not supply torque converter it came full circle back to erf ■■■■■■■ &zf

Great shot of the ERF at work - were those trailers on solid tyres?

revman, if you have any photos of the volvos with a billet trailer i’d be very grateful (i feel a new model coming on!)

how eagle-eyed are you fodenway? well spotted with where the ballast box came from :sunglasses: always amused me where those curvy ERFs got their nickname :laughing:
