Casey. They were fitted with the 350 whistler engines.I think there were 4 or 5 of them with the brake problem.A top bloke was there trying to sort them out.I don’t remember who found out about the cam but it was NOT him. Leyland then sent him somewhere else abroad to change a mirror glass.

Just for info Ross depot had some Lad Albion tractor units. They were new and all of them had a severe braking problem. They used to pull to the right when braking. They had been fitted with the wrong brake cam shafts. How do I know? I had a short spell there after a transfer from Tyburn Road depot.Birmingham.
Hi ROF and leylandlover, thanks for the info , yes i can remember those Albions at Ross depot , i believe they finished up with Bathgate cabbed BMCs which were just as bad . regards Keith .
Sorry to ask again.
I posted some pictures on 14th August on pge 116.It was about a blue logo which appeared on several vehicles from different areas during the 60’s.I was told it was something to do with load security but can’t find any details to support this.
Can anyone help identify the logo and what it actually was about please.
thanks
regards
Chris
I think the Mercury tipper was Jim Eckley’s which ended up in the BRS Tippers grey livery. It was on a nice little earner hauling scrap aluminium from Cheltenham to the midlands ever day. The Mandator on the right is ex- James Smith and ended up in the Red & Rust colour scheme.
JAKEY:
Now I may be incorrect but I think this was a Oxford depot ,Tidderson will help me out here please.
Rego of FC makes it an Oxfordshire one if that helps.
Good day all
I believe this was taken around 1966 at the Irthlingborough Repair Centre, the accident happened on one of the access ramps to the M1 a car hit another truck became airborne and hit this Bristol as it was going down the ramp ,fortunately the driver was unharmed apart from a few cuts and bruises and I believe a broken arm,the car driver not so lucky, fleet number not much to go on but some one may recall the incident.

Thanks Tidderson I wasn’t sure if that middle number was a one or three anyhow you have a registration number that matches the fleet number can’t argue with that.

hey ROF , got to admit i have never heard of Jim Eckley ! Was he Forest based ? regards Keith .
Yes, Keith, lived in Mitcheldean. Eventually he had to give up the little Mercury tipper when BRS lost the contract. He ended up on one of those light blue Big Js that had returned from the Wall’s contract.
A 1953 Vulcan of Southampton Hampton Park depot off loading a cargo container on to a British Railways vessel operating on the Channel Island service from Southampton Docks Lack of indicators or semaphore signals meant that often the driver’s protruding right arm was the only indication of his intentions & the white ring around the cuff helped with spotting the signal.
IN the late 60’s ,Hampton Park collected empty AFP containers from Sealink & took them to Wall’s Gloucester where they were loaded with Wall’s products ,packed with dry ice & taken back to Southampton for the overnight sailing to the Channel Islands The AFP containers were only about 12ft long and looked somewhat ungainly when roped onto an Albion 16T rigid (AS 201/206)
The post in October 2015 illustrating a very badly damaged Bristol lorry has worried me, as the details quoted for the vehicle thought to be concerned are for an HG 8-wheeler, but the damaged vehicle is clearly an artic. What is left of the cab also appears to carry the beading present on the final Longwell Green design. Can I offer the suggestion that the vehicle involved here might have been HA6LL 2E314 (229TVT)?

You are correct. I misread the fleet number and as you say the Bristol lorry was an 8 wheeler.
Only got a poor photo of the undamaged Stoke unit at a LDoY competition
Sorry to ask again.
but I posted a question and pictures on 14th August regarding a blue logo on the doors of some BRS trucks.I was told it was something to do with load security, but have been unable to find any further info.I have seen the same signs on several different pictures.
As I said I’m sorry to go on about it but i’m interested to know more about it,any one able to supply more info?
On a separate note can I just wish all on here a very Merry Christmas and a peaceful and Happy New Year
much thanks

Hi Chris
I think this arrow symbol is a version of a “Turn that lorry round” reminder that was used around the mid-sixties. I am more familiar with one that had the arrow spiralling round on a grey background rather than the one you have pictured. I wonder if anybody knows which came first and when they came in?
