Looks nice , must of been new .
This small Scania was based at Swindon depot on contract to Wise cakes , when it came off contract Oxford were looking for a workshop shunter for internal shunting and for taking trailers for Mot .
We ended up with this truck ,I recall it being useless with a box trailer on but ok with a flat trailer, we painted it up in white and red wheels but sadly the engine went bang, whilst being driven by a heavy footed fitter (not me ) , and they scrapped it .
Now this 92m Scania was new on contract to Servis pak Wallingford delivering new cardboard cases, after it came of contract it was painted up for the Atlet contract Thame and was used to deliver Forklifts ,(I was on this contract for 18 months) and before that I was on holiday relief using this wagon ,which was driven by Steve Wright, it use to take a day off cleaning to make it passable for a night out, I was keen then .
It ended up as a shunter on Habitat ,pulling and pushing drawbar trailers (hence the battered bumper ".
Now this was cool , seen at lorry driver of the year early 90s . I think Barry Allen was driving this that day , also it was on rental to Habitat and was used on the Atherstone trunk day and nights with a double deck trailer .
These two Mercs were part of Four bought in from another depot to replace some elderly Roadtrains , I would of stuck with the roadtrain over these heaps , they were only used as road going shunters .

Hi JAKEY, i can remember that contract , they had for quite a few years . How many units were employed on it ?
Can also recall the Road trains on the Llanelli run , John Evans also had them doing similar work . regards Keith .
Hi Keith
All I knew that Swindon had a few Scania which our paint shop painted from new , I knew nothing about them apart from that one coming to us later on .
Also the Rtek contract , we only had that one Leyland on it for a few years .

Hiya,
Doubt it with that smoke stack.
thanks harry, long retired.
Come on now, leylandlover, don’t stir them up!
Chrisb01, someone found the black & white photo of my first new lorry. The original was taken at BRS Forest of Dean depot not too long after the “red & rust” had bought out George Read Transport. I recently did a computer/photography course in which I learned the joys of Photoshop, hence the colour of the vehicle and the missing pole-mounted electricity transformer which can be clearly seen on the b&w pic, somewhere on the “Old Firms from the Forest of Dean” thread.
And don’t let anyone tell you that’s a 240 Gardner- it was a 205 ■■■■■■■ in original BRS spec, but after I got the lads at North Woolwich Guy to mess about with it (on the pretext of re-setting the injectors!) it pushed out about 225.
I’m trying to persuade my family to buy me a Photoshop programme for Xmas, so look out for that photo of the Big J/8-potter sometime in early 2015!
