Numbum:
Longwell Green Coachworks where the Bristol cabs were built. Conditions were a bit spartan.
Official photo taken in the lane outside the gate. Some photos have a manure heap behind the hedge.
Three photos taken at Spring Street depot Bristol. Just off the river. The one on the right has been recabed with an artic cab.
Three of the four HG,s that have been restored. The one on the left is the second one built and was presented to the museum in Bristol by BRS when it was withdrawn. I got it out on the road a couple of years ago and took it to a few shows including Lincoln Farm.
Nice to see that someone has got some useful info from the book I wrote about Bristol goods vehicles years ago. No firm was interested in printing it so Allen Janes and myself paid for it to be printed ourselves. This was pre computer days when all the photos had to be converted to dots and pasted up so it was a challenge. I still have some new copies, A4. 80 pages if anyone is interested in buying one please PM me.Cheers Phil Sposito (Numbum, but not anymore retired now the old Bristol was the last lorry i drove)

Going back to 1964 I got stuck on Tyburn Rd Birmingham one very smoggy night everything was at a stand still even the buses. I managed to get parked in the middle of the dual carriage way next to a BRS parcels van from Sheffield along with lots of other stranded drivers, the BRS driver if I rememeber said his name was Flash or perhaps Speed I not sure but he was a day man which meant he was stuck in Birmingham with no gear, anyway the Police were there & directed us to a house that did B&B, It was a shack of a place but a place to kip for the night was better than cabbing it, it turned out very well the really old couple were retired from doing transport digs, but they made us very welcome and fed us for a lot less than normal digs, in fact they enjoyed our company as we did theres, the following morning we got up at 630am & the sun was shining, & the BRS driver said ta ta I went on to Bodmin & I never saw him again, perhaps he is still about on this thread & may remember it like me ,I worked for Smiles for Miles in those days Regards Larry

Tidderson,
The Leyland PRESTCOLD is interesting to me ,Prestcold was in my day the refridgeration arm of Pressed Steel and we used to deliver commercial fridges throughout the uk from cowley ,trailers were tail lift 25ft carrimores usually, often pulled by the infamous Morris Saurer in Prestcold colours.obviously at some point the fleet was used for body carrying as well.
Please keep the brs pics coming!— toshboy
