Yes Boris if you had had been thought of in the 1970, you would have seen London brick lorries, hundreds of them, and they did remind me of them, I have handled a few of them in my time " Bricks", concrete blocks, kerb stones, and those 2cwt sacks of corn, oh sorry Boris I was right to say I was driving before you had cradle marks on your bum, you must have been all of two when I was lugging bricks around, you was not even thought of when I was doing the same with sacks, or when I was loading stinking chickens, and concrete garages, I am not proud I did those jobs, but the pay was good and it fed my family, on Carlsberg, it was the best thing I ever done, and drivers from at least twenty miles away was queueing up to get on there if someone died, a load from swifts, butts, wrefords, Rogers, was asking to come on, and I can name at least a dozen who did, as for union I have been in one since I came out of the army in 1958, and proud of it, and they got the drivers pay rises due to the fact of the Hgv licences comming in, for most at earlier times were working for peanuts, and blokes like Harry can tell you, that is why the old red & rust is endeared in their hearts. The middle east men can comment because they did the job, what they say is their opinion, it does not make it true. But you read a few statements and criticise on something you have no experience of, comm’n Boris tell us you driving life and where and when you started what you drove, and did you ever get your hands or clothes dirty and we might be able to wind you up :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses: . I have two sons older than you, and I gave them good advice, never talk about things you know nothing about, for just reading about it don’t make it true or make you a expert.

There comes a point where we get nowhere in this ,you can say what you like in your replies , but none have swayed my opinion of you- if anything reinforced it., like i’ve said most of the others have interesting input in these threads but yours is usually tosh & thats what gets my goat  , Oh & if you were driving in the 50s & 60s- the mainstay haulage lorry was an 8 legger BRS one as in the pictures :unamused: just ask Harry ,your correlation stems from the fact you didnt start driving till the 70s when the 8 legger London brick AECs were around  Typical of a [zb] is to use the old age cliche :unamused: in nappies etc. :unamused: :unamused: is that because you’ve been rumbled
as i mentioned previously i am not a driver  although i have a class 1 licence, i am a HGV fitter- does that not give me the right to have an opinion then■■?
Obviously not -you really don’t get it do you :unamused: :unamused:

Certain words are ‘caught’ by our auto-censor, so there’s no point in trying to kid it by using astersiks. The asterisks DO NOT make the word become acceptable. dd.

hiya,
boris this sort of thing is not very nice in open forum why not PM the lad and air your views as near as possible as face to face, it looks like you live very near the person maybe you could meet up, i’ve met Norman and in my opinion he’s a true gent, he’s pleasant and inoffensive and i’ve no reason to doubt what he puts on here, i think it’s time to call it a day, don’t you??.
thanks harry long retired

hiya,im new to T/N its great to read all the lighthearted banter between you guys, except for Boris and his input.I wouldnt worry too much about him Norman, ithink he is just a windup merchant. Hey Chris ,thats a great pic of the AEC from Fordham depot, thats a depot i never got to go into tho.I used Whittlesy depot a lot back in 1964/5 with a Foden 8 legger. As Harry said it would be a bit of a job sheeting that lot.Better getting night loaded with bricks at Whittlesy for the northwest or scotland.I think the highest load i ever sheeted was out of Edinburgh,a load of new biscuit tins on pallets for Jacobs at Liverpool it was 15ft 2ins on the marker in the depot,it wasnt a problem sheeting it ,but it was hard work, especially getting the corner boards to stay on as you roped it.Good old days eh lads thanks Ted.

hiya,
Welcome Ted nice to hear from you just hope the thread gets back to normal as quickly as possible, the daft banter i can live with and suscribe to, the snipeing i can live without, i’m not much of a computer whiz can’t post pics but thanks to other people i get to see plenty of stuff, and Ted if you have any BRS pics or information feel free to stick it on here our mentor Frenchy would love to see things back to normal again.
thanks harry long retired.

Agreed mate, but apart from a minor language edit that I had to do, boris hasn’t broken any rules so far.

Hi Ted,
You wouldn’t want many low bridges on your route with a load that high.Good to see another veteran driver on the thread.
Cheers Dave.

JOHN

hiya,
Had a little sit in that beauty at the Lincoln Farm cafe a couple of weeks back it looks as well in real life as it does in the photo, keep em coming John.
thanks harry long retired.

Sorry lads,I was just trying to get information from boris of all his experience of firms he worked for ,that gave him all his knowledge,I would be the last person to deny his opinion, wrong or right, for it wouldn’t worry me either way, but I know it is always easy to criticize or berate a person, so I leave it at that, for I do not care.

I think they look a lot like the ones who done the London Bricks from J13 on the M1?

Right then! I am not a driver nor do i proclaim to be one , why should i be jealous of you? i am 42, you are old & a '‘numpty’ :unamused: . I am full of admiration and respect for the ‘old school’ lorry driver which i pointed out you are not! Drivers that roped & sheeted anything , organised their own backload, handballed 20tonsof 2cwt sacks, then drove lorries with no power steering, heater, radio , 150bhp on pre motorway roads…Buses, ambulances & cranes don’t count   Your comments/contribution above- about the BRS 8 legger pics said it all really   Do you ever read the Astrans middle east thread? Why do you get ridiculed on their also? Why should i not voice my opinion  your trucknet ‘buddies’ only back you up because they are being polite :unamused: & it sure is more interesting than ‘old women’ chat you lot like
A former BRS manager informed me that Overland was set up when BRS was in decline and was an amature set up with mostly amature & rookie drivers [like yourself]  oh and your 22 years on Carlsberg - tanks & taughtliners  all union men… yeah! That makes you a driver doesn’t it :unamused: :unamused:
Anyway to show a BRS contribution ,more than you do :unamused: a pic i found taken at BRS corby 1980

P.S. Does anyone (who’s still talking to me) know if the BRS eastern ‘brown’ colour has a name?
Love Boris xxxx

On the photo… :unamused:
Don’t remember seeing many Sedak’s in BRS eastern colours :astonished: & wasn’t the colour ‘nut’ brown

I’ve looked in a BRS book but can’t find reference to the shade of brown.I don’t remember any Eastern BRS Sed-Atkis.Nice picture, loaded with tubes from Stewart and Lloyds probably.

I do remember “Nut Brown” was a bottled beer by Worthington though.

The last vehicles in the ‘new’ Eastern colours i recall were the F86s & crusaders, as in common with alot of BRS depots at the time the general haulage traffic was in decline :frowning: :frowning:

Hiya all ,Thanks for the welcome Harry,DAVE,& DD,sorry Harry no brs pics didnt have a camera with me in them days, the memories from them days stick around ,but cant remember what went on last week sometimes. It comes to us all i suppose.stick with it lads Cheers Ted.

hiya,
You’re dead right there regarding the memory Ted,i can remember stuff from when i first kicked off in the transport game in 1957,now i go upstairs and forget why i’m up there and return downstairs and then remember i went up in need of a jimmy riddle keep considering having a downstairs loo save the old legs a bit then i’d go upstairs and have forgotten i’d payed a fortune for the downstairs facility, this old age isn’t much fun my friend.
thanks harry long retired.

Eh, Norman, last ‘dig’ …I promise!! look on here viewtopic.php?f=35&t=56416&start=90

Not seen that before John.I see she’s got a Salford reg,did Salford have it’s own depot or did Manchester rule the roost?

to the best of my 100% knowledge the old Manchester depot contolled it all

hi good pic John,i drove one of them at St Helens in1964/5 bit of a heap. i think there was 3 depots in Manchester, greenhays, cheetham hill, trafford park, dont think there was one in Salford tho.cheers Ted
