Hi Chris,
I quite believe your mishap with the Bantam,we regularly road three on a moterbike up from a village two miles from here, one night I had two mates on the back of my Greeves and the one accidently pushed the other off the back,he cut his knee’s and ripped his coat. Another three mates of mine got caught by the coppers three on a moterbike, stopped them and booked them, then went back to the other village and told two more who were sat down waiting for the one with the m/bike to come back for them, cop’s said to them, you can start walking your mate won’t be cooming back for you two.
Cheers Dave.

hi harry, the hownsgill plate mill , that was some click when coming out eh, we always cut the corner to get out, did a lot of containers to both rothmans sites, darlington and spennymoor, some times we would be out of hours after waiting to unload, customs would always sign you log book or taco card, this driver is allowed to Finnish his journey :stuck_out_tongue: :stuck_out_tongue: , had a 1948 HRD Rapide 1000, sold it for a BSA GOLDSTAR,  ,have you seen the price there bring now   bumper

Hi,
A friend of mine sold his Vincent rapide c last year when he emigrated to Canada , he had turned down a couple of offers over £20,000.
I still have 4 bikes, nothing fancy , my daily ride to work is on a 78 honda cx500 (the plastic maggot), I also have a 650 version which I use for rallies and touring abroad.

hiya,
Bumper did a spell shunting in Hownsgill when on for the BRS as you say it was quite a pull out of there remember one of Waughy’s or Mc Phees losing 20 tons of wide plate over the back end, had’nt put any chains on, said he did’nt have any, that stopped the job for an hour or two it meant road traffic having to go out via the steel plant, which meant a British Rail guy had to be on duty because that road was in close proximity to the railway and he had to make sure there was no loco’s coming.
thanks harry long retired.

hiya,
Just had a mate of mine in my place “Geordie Walton” for a cuppa he seems to remember the lost load incident and seems to think it was one of McPhees, he worked for them for years before becoming an O/D come to think of it the TM for McPhees turned up as well another pal of mine now deceased a very nice lad who died much too soon his name Peter Roberts, Geordie, Peter and myself used to have a regular Saturday night pubbing session until Geordie moved away and Peter passed away, there was much diesel used and many miles covered in those sessions,

My son first bike was a unrestricted fizzer 50cc, they could go for a small bike, then learners had to buy them, they was controlled, so everyone was after the old ones, then he got a 350cc Honda red, then a new suksukie blue, then a guzzi red, always said the Italian electric’s was crap, and changed it for Jap, then he got his dream the big BMW, he found he could just reach with his legs to control when stopped, I have drove all the other bikes, but not this one, he got it when I was too old in the tooth, and a lot more sense.

Have a look on google for a travel lodge in that area Harry, they are supposed to be pretty good.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Thanks Dave there is a guesthouse a short stroll from the Lincoln Farm site but am awaiting confirmation of the dates for the show have sent an email to Alexsaville and i’ll “book my bed” when i find out it’s defo on and the exact date, the guest house rates are comparable to the motel’s and it’s reviews are good,
just hope i can get a return load to pay the petrol.
thanks harry long retired.

Glad to hear that you seem fixed up Harry, unfortunately we can,t get to it as we go on holiday on the 3rd of july, otherwise I would have made an effort to come to that show, lets hope there will be another the following year. Will have to keep breathing until then.
Cheers Dave.

Harry, I will do my best to be there, at the moment I have nothing booked, but it will not be concrete, until my good wife tells me she not going anywhere, it not my wifes cup of tea, but I can be up there in a hour, so I will tell her, and she will say go on your own, or I might come with my daughters boy friend, he is interested in lorries, and he lives at Hillmorton near Rugby, so that is 30 minutes away, so I will plan something. Norman

hiya,
Norm just awaiting confirmation of the date of the show then i can book a bed at the guest house just adjacent to the Lincoln Farm Cafe i’ve seen two dates but need to be sure before i book, hate to admit but but my place to there and back would be too much for me now, remember when a change over trunk with the South Wales BRS boys a similar mileage was a piece of cake, isn’t this getting old fun, anyway good buddy it’ll be nice to meet you, i’ll buy the teas and the bacon butties.
thanks harry long retired.

h harry i have tried to pm you, an old mate of George Walton is trying to get back in touch with him, his name is Trevor turn bull, i have a phone number/ email address for Trevor if you could pass these on to Geordie that would be great, or if you have a number for George i will pass it on to Trevor, best regards bumper

hiya,
Bumper, George Walton isn’t on line and a bit difficult to get hold of he moves about quite a bit his home is a residential caravan at Seahouses he lives there for ten months of the year and generally goes abroad for a couple of months over the winter but will contact his laddie also George Walton and a driver as well, he does’nt live far away and i’ll get back to you, have had a go at ringing him tonight but no joy, speak to you later.

hiya,
Dave just spotted something on the internet, the Lincoln Farm owners have an application in place to flatten the place and replace it with a multi room hotel, so i wonder if there would/could be a show there next year but so long as the red and rusters find another venue all will be well, it will be a shame to see the old place go, but does anybody want lorries and their drivers in their area, a case of “not in my backyard” although there aren’t many natives in that location it’s a bit bare there.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
Shame to see these old cafes go,doubtful if any motel owners would want a lorry show next to it. Hope as you say that the red and rusters can find a new venue for next year. A lot of the owners of premises seem to forget that lorry drivers have families who like to have a day out or a holiday, they don’t mind taking your money when you turn up in a car.
Cheers Dave.

hiya,
Dave so long as there are dedicated people to keep the old girls mint and people still want to see them they’ll always find somewhere to display them, shame if the (truckstop) goes though i’ts been there a long time, it used to be an OK place to stopover, the food was fair and the beds was clean in my time, i don’t expect there are any cafe’s with sleeping accomodation left in this day and age not many if any day cabs left doing distance work, I think the planning permission application is still in the very early stages so just hope hope there’s no disruption this year.
thanks harry long retired.

Hi Harry,
I have never been to that transport cafe, been to quite a few, only one Ive seen that still had accommodation in recent years was the Avon lodge & truckstop at Avonmouth, was in there a few months ago, can’t remember if the overnight rooms were still going.Good thing if they keep the BRS show going.
Cheers Dave.

I think the last time I stopped at that cafe, you was a young man Dave, and Harry had loads of hair. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

When that cafe was built Norm I was middle aged, thats if you are refering to the Avon truckstop,as for Harry’s hair, can’t say, never seen him.
Cheers Dave.
