hiya,
Well now your talking Andrew should be OK with that, never did fridge work, the nearest i got was containers with “swinging” beef from Eire, Preston to Windsor the only problem was we had to backload electricals and getting rid of the dry ice and the bags was a problem there was lots of them per load and sometimes you had to travel miles to dispose of them.
thanks harry long retired.
Well Harry, drove a few fridges for Pentons at Oswestry, and and also Wincanton (Sun Valley) at Hereford,no problem, apart from sleeping and being carefull who you park next to , the trailers were triaxle and handled a lot better than a 3 decked livestock trailer on tandom axles.
I prefered Pentons, a good firm to work for and a good bunch of drivers. the best laugh I had there was when mr Penton asked if I would take a fridge over the water, no problem said I, he then came back with a retort and said ok but youve got to take the motor in the corner and pointed to his restored F88,I twigged that he was pulling my leg, so again I said no problem, and that It would be my prefered lorry as it was the most reliable motor in the yard, this upset him somewhat as at the time he had a very smart fleet of Volvo FHs & Scania143s.
They still run a very impressive fleet of lorries, the units and trailers are always well painted and the white and blue looks very smart.
regards Andrew.

oh I dont know Dave, looks better without all those spot lights ,
First drove a fridge lorry in 1966, it was gas fed unit, before I got that new, I had a humber box van that was insulated and boxes of dry ice was stacked in with the chickens which I delivered to M&S, they had to be cold but not frozen, they stuck a thermonitor up its rear end to test it was the correct temparture. Also Andrew with your surname, did you get laid much?
hiya,
Excuse me, where’s the BRS theme gone??, come back Frenchy all is forgiven, a little bit of BRS stuff which i’ve most likely posted previously, when at the old Blackburn depot we had a batch of motors mainly Bristols bearing the reg letters NCB, CB and BV being the two reg’s allocated to the area, we did a lot of collieries delivering coveyor belting when entering the pit sites you was always asked for your company name and motor reg No and was often told by the storekeeper not to mess him about and give him the proper reg, Aberdeen BRS hit on with quite a few motors bearing the hallowed BRS reg letters.

hiya,
John it’s a while since that was churned out at the Star Bodies outfit in Oldham and it looks like it’s had a rather rough attempt at being converted to a livestock motor, would’nt have driven very close to that when moving animals one good kick and you’d have a horse/cow/sheep on your bonnet.
thanks harry long retired.
Thanks Harry …Star bodies I never new where they was built.I put it on for peoples intrest and also if anyone is restoring one as it happens
this truck is quite complete the bonnet one wheel and the manifold are missing.God they was ugly but how many of them was built…Hundreds
i bet.Do you remember the one that sat in the field at the M1/M6 juction for years.

hiya,
Thank you Revman, both pics are welcome, this isn’t my thread but i’m sure Frenchy the originator won’t mind, can remember seeing the Scammells about but can’t remember which depot’s they ran out of, have driven them but in the private sector good old motor but you knew you’d done a days work after a spreadover, not many people nowadays coulld sort the gears out and thats if they could get one started they sure would sort the men from the boys.

hiya,
Thanks again Revman, ah yes BRS Greenheys i was in the same group the first time i worked for the old red and rust, used to do a bit of wag and drag work for them when our place was a bit quiet but rarely went into their yard just loaded their work and proceeded, are those motors still in existence or just old photo’s?? would be nice to think they was tucked undercover somewhere just awaiting a spot of TLC.
