Chris can’t you find me owt else i hate timber and i lost my chains on trunk,and as for me doing trailer boy for old Norm no chance he’s been on my cruelly to trailer boy course and he’ll beat me with the knotty rope, i’ll just pick Dave up at Rad and give him a refresher course in Welsh, and Norm bora dah is good day so it’s nos dah goodnight you learn something new every day.

Eyup you two,I’m going away for a few days - Italia - so will be off the air from tomorrow.I’m leaving Dave and Keith in charge of you two and I’m not bothered who does the driving,ex trailer lads will do.As long as I find the work,I’m expecting a cut so make sure it’s a good rate - Dave and Keith will expect an envelope each as well

Harry can take this,two drops,Ayr and Glasgow,Then into Glasgow BRS for a backload.
And Norman can take this,four drops starting at Peterborough and finishing at Rochester.Then into BRS North Kent for a backload.
No dodgy nights out,no dodgy running,no multi-stops at cafes and Harry,no lashing out at yer trailer lad.I want you both parked up and done friday night,no running in saturday for a minimum of 8 hours,the job won’t stand it.

Chris firstly have a nice break away, now Norm can only take the solo 8 legger because he was too tight to do my cruellty to trailer boys course so he does’nt qualify for the proper rig and pup but having two TMs to watch over us is a bit much will do my best to get in friday but all those wheels can’t guarantee not having a blowout within fiddling distance, anyway mate enjoy the hols and see you on your return. PS don’t foget to post the wages before you go cos Norm’s cleaned out the ex’s box so there’s nowt to be had using the OPs 6.

Have a good holiday. I will keep an eye on Norman through some fella’s out hte Eastern side,get them to do some silent checks on him. Will leave Keith to keep an eye on Harry as he is nearer to Scotland than I am. It’s got to be silent checks,as they will be using log books( say no more ). I f we have problems we will get interpol to inform you.

the silent check lowlifes never queried my running in 44 yearsi was lucky i guess or just too fast for them to get my number, never once came to the yard to check my logbook i must be the luckiest guy in the world or was it that i did all those years running legal he said tongue in cheek.

Hi Harry,
Never got anyone ask me for anythig,also my Dad was on the road from before WW2 till 1990 when he retired, knew some other drivers who got warned but noyhing more. Had a bloke running on my CPC who got done for tacho offences,only three ,he got £1,800 fine including costs. I was ok because I had given him written warnings long before. It was a bit hard sticking that much on him,his offence was against the law,but at the end of the day he was working. Needless to say I pulled out as TM.

tell you what Dave there’s a saying and i quote, here by the grace of God go i, very apt in my case everybody except post office drivers ran a bit bent nearly always to benifit the gaffer but if you was a red and ruster it was usually to get a dodgy because the BRS would’nt pay excessive hours worked so doing extra hours was for nothing yes i was a lucky man and i was aware of the circumstances, i too know of lads whom got hit hard in the pocket.

Chris have a good time on hols, if you get stuck for money send a telex for the attention of Norm the lighthouse it will find him and he will have a dig under his bed and transfer you some cash.
Dont worry about up North I’ve got it coverd getting them fitted with trackers.If you take your laptop with you you will be able to keep an eye on them yourself.

Thanks lads,I’ll sleep easy knowing the best of British Haulage - BRS 
- is working whilst I’m away for 6 days,not long but a bit expensive for a poor driver/shunter/tax exile like mesen.We were going to Venice for 4 nights but I said “to hell with the expense,give the cat a goldfish” and booked for 5. Only trouble is we have to stay over at Leeds/Bradford tomorrow night which is a bit much for a Sheffielder to take. 
In the meantime if Norman and Harry get done early on friday they can load this lot at Arthur Lees,Sheffield.Stainless strip,needs to be double sheeted.

Harry I drove far longer than the legal hours in the 60’s,as you know it was log sheets then,after the HGV license came in it was log books,couldn’t throw them away and start another,but as you know they weren’t that difficult,neither are the analogue tacho’s,the digital one’s are mo re difficult,but I have heard ways around them. Vosa know all the dodges, so they know what to look for. Its the usual story with driving,you have to do long hours to make a reasonable wage. The only time I can remember them being half decent was when the HGV came in,but that didn’t last long,a lot of the blokes I know are still working for £7 to £8 an hour straight through. I think the likes of us had the best days on the road.

you’re correct in everything you say Dave, i was lucky never having to work with the tacho i’ve worked for a firm who used them supposedly as a time sheet we had no keys so never got to see inside them,the present day pay is rubbish and percentage wise poor to what we got in the 60s and 70s, starting out afresh it would be the last job i would take, and i bet my mobile would always be out of range unless it suited me, had some great times in a job i once loved, you’ve got to have change, but for the better, and it’s not heading that way, got aches and pains but still happy in retirement.
