British Gypsums new FM's

Whilst trundling up and down to Scotland, ive noticed the last few months British Gypsum have lots of low ride FM Globetrotters. No problem with that, but none of their trailers are low ride, and the 5th wheel on the FM’s has about a foot of metalwork before the 5th wheel has been put on.

My question is…why spec low ride units in the first place, when a normal height truck would do the same job (and probably be cheaper to buy as well)

It’s none of your business why they operate that way , if you’re offended , look away ? Do you trundle wearing a greasy hiviz, if so , I’m offended that you are too lazy to take it off on a long distance trunk .
What next, a Nissan Micra hogging lane two .

I’ve seen them pulling out of Church Fenton and thought the same thing. They look stupid for a start

Could be a weight saving measure?

Apparently it impoves cab access and visablity according to this .

Pesonally I have found the access and visablity fine on the standard hight FM tractors

2 of my mates have started at east leake , sure they said xpo had signed a 10 yr deal to do gypsum work

Why not put low ride trailers behind them if it’s really about safety?

I passed a couple of them on the M6 yesterday.
They just look so wrong.

One was so far down on the back end that it looked like an old two axle steel sprung ERF with a ten ton overload on the pin.

I think it’s probably because the low ride trailers would only be limited to the 85 low ride FM tractors , where as now the hundreds of standard height TGX Ceva units can pull them too
