British driving is crap

I made a few deliveries on Dover docks today, pig of a place to find anything and service roads are near imposible to get off of when the flow off the ferries is busy. One address i had was “P&O uniform stores, berth 2” it’s a portacabin under one of the access ramps! :open_mouth:

Thing is i noticed there were loads of drivers (mainly cars) who ignored the giveway signs and just shot out in front of you and no one showed you any courtesy of letting you out…

…thats the british registered cars!

I was let out by a few vehicles all foreign registered, one being an Italian registered Artic, who’s driver flashed me out when i was on an extremely well designed blind junction, which wont allow you to square up the vehicle at all to see the on coming traffic.

It seemed that foreign vehicles actually obeyed the signage and road markings where as out fellow natives just didnt give a ■■■■.

Just an observation!

careful dennis, you’ll have an angry mob turning up on your front lawn, complete with burning crosses - sacriligious comments like that may upset some of the natives on here

well at least hear we dont bang are cars all over the place just to park our cars on a street like they do in paris

I have to agree with the standard of driving in this country, especially on motorways & towing trailers behind vans/cars.

The problem is there is no requirement for training on motorways & towing.

If you had to pass a separate test to do either of these things (with a separate category on the driving licence which already exists under +E qualification) Then maybe the standards would improve

Here’s another observation, in many places like dock areas, some service areas and multi lane junctions/roundabouts the road signing is mainly in white on the floor which is easy for us to see from the high seat of out cab. I have laughed to myself many a time watching motorists get it wrong, pull into the truck fuelling section looking for petrol etc. But the truth is i have done it myself when visiting somewhere unfamiliar in my car, especially if its wet and a bit dark and you can’t see the floor markings to well until it’s to late!!

Driving standards in Britain are appalling, starting with observation, anticipation, signalling, obeying stops, give ways, etc, lane discipline, I could go on all night. :imp: :unamused:

You no longer get the B+E category (car and trailer) automatically when you pass your car test although this obviously has no effect on the overall standard of driving.

Because most people dont bother taking the +e test and tow ilegally! :open_mouth:
