2 last week within 24 hrs of each other

then 24 hours later there was a 3 car pile up at tideford which was 5 mins further up road from the second one. Then there were two seperate motorbikes today,(marshmills and moorswater) one dead, one in hospital.

What would be the correct way to “read the statistics” here?

“Deaths per mile of road per year”?

I remember being surprised some years back, on hearing the (rather long) A1 had the highest number of casulties - which is alarming if it’s “per mile of road”! :open_mouth:

I believe the A1 statistics only included “fatalities” and people suffering what are now known as “life-changing injuries”.
I think there is some distortion over those that die at the wheel, without having any “accident” until after they have died. It could be argued that such a “traffic victim” might well have died sitting on a park bench - if that had been where they were at the moment of death…

There’s another statistic though - “Emergency Services Callouts” per mile of named road…
That however, would surely distort figures when there are “bombscares” or “trees blowing down in the wind” and the like. It might be my imagination, but I get the impression that “tree deaths” are UP these last couple of years. I think there are many of us too, who believe that “LGV driver fatalities at work” are ALSO “up” these past couple of years in particular. :frowning:

We might all joke about how poor mail firm drivers are - but where are the statistics as to “how many third parties have been killed by a mail courier driver in a LGV?”

When you read about a “mail driver fatality” - it invariably seems to be the driver of said vehicle - and no one else!

…If we’re going to generalise here - the public might well believe these days that "All cyclists were killed by tipper drivers" too… :open_mouth:

A628 woodhead pass ! A57 snake pass !

How about

“London - when half the main roads are all shut at once” like friday just gone…

M25 queueing from 25-27, Dartford Bridge down to one lane,
Fore Street tunnel closed
A406 closed on waterworks hill,
A12 “storm drain” through Leyton blocked,
then A13 Plaistow has you coming off, and fed through Plaistow itself… So much for LBTS routes!

I suppose I should be grateful - They could have shut the blackwall tunnel as well! :open_mouth:

I dunno why they do the work on friday nights… They’d be better doing it on Sunday nights, and not bothering Friday & Saturday at all - too much reveller traffic about - especially in London! :bulb:
