used tostop down poole a lot yrs ago and most of the drivers there usualy ended up in bristol. they said a few pints then up to the locarno behind the hatchet i was told wed was grap a granny night lol
Yeah I can remember the F1 pub, although I thought it was more of a club, they even had the odd car on display from time to time,It was on the left just before the bend, but cannot for the life of me remember it’s name. Was it something like "The Chequered Flag ?
Can remember having a few pints on the Lochiel, they used to have booze cruises down the River Severn.
KW:
,the big warehouses at the back were tobbacco bonds, full of raw tobbacco leaf.
Remember the tobacco bonds well, but as I was Southampton based, never got to have a night out in Bristol.
Are they still there ? and still used for tobacco ? Anyone got any pic’s of them, either passed or present ?
Hi Fergie, the tobbacco bonds are long gone mate, heres some dreadful pics but shows the bonds behind the lorry park.
Cheers Bubbs,
To add to Bubbs photos here is a distant view of the tobacco bonds. The lorry park was behind them. Wills closed the ■■■ factory in Bristol and they were redundant. They were blown up in 1988 with one impressive explosion. Two of the original red brick bonds survive at ■■■■■■■■■■ Basin as you enter Bristol under the suspension bridge
Cheers Phil.
Thanks a lot Bubbs and Numbum…great photo’s, and brings back some memories.
Pity they’re all gone, they must have been there a long time, when Bristol was a major port during the sailing days, ( All ship-shape, and Bristol fashion )
It was a nice days work…load Soton, del Canon Marsh,…back… and reload., especially if it was a Friday…easy job.!
Also remember doing the cigarette out of B.A.T Soton to London, ■■■■■■ all the way, and a packet of 20 as a bonus, unless like me, you didn’t smoke !
