Found an old sales brochure from Brinor Freight from around 1988,and thought the pics I’ve scanned from it might interest someone.
If not,well,what the f…
I was offered a job at Brinor at around this time, but the money was crap,I was told that I could make up the shortfall by selling duty free’s.
Anyway…
The company was (is) owned by a German guy called Manfred Bähr,which is why the trucks & trailers were named Yogi 2,Yogi 3 etc. (Yogi Bear)
Towards the end of the 80’s,Brinor’s first driver,Stevie Clifford, started subbing for Brinor with his own unit.
Gradually he got more trucks and even a couple of his best mates bought their own trucks to work for Stevie on Brinor.
Getting paid on a weekly basis was a big bonus for Stevie,so much so in fact that he did a runner!
The driver’s who had worked for him found out that although he’d been deducting tax & N.I. from there wages,he hadn’t actually passed any money on to the Inland Revenue
He disappeared without a trace overnight, leaving not only the driver’s facing big debts, but also his wife!
He’d financed the trucks through Peter Colby Commercials, who I believe to this day would still like to get his hands on Mr. Clifford.
Rumours abound that he’s been sighted in Italy & Spain, but I believe no-one knows for sure.
Nice pictures of P@Os ,Townsend Thorenson boat, didn’t they change to P@O
after Zeebrugge?.
Don’t know Mr. Clifford ,but I knew a lot who went to the same accountancy school!
regards derek
