Bringing in tobacco

Hi,

Just a thought from an operators point of veiw, if this incident has lead to you losing your job while you still owe your gaffer the release money i think he made a hasty desicion, surely a rap on the knuckles and the chance to repay the debt on the monthly basis would of been a better option, whats to stop you telling him to shove it because you aint got a job, therefore no money coming in. His only option then would be legal action. in a months time when you have a new job, your old boss, your good intentions and his fine may well be long forgotten.
Please dont take this a personal judgment of your good character, its just not the way i would of played it if i were your ex employer.

I offered to get the money to him on the monday but he said no i had to empty the truck so now i cant pay him in one lump i have respect for him and his company thats why im going to pay him

Hi,
I hope you didnt take my comment personaly, i sometimes find that people read a post differently to the way it was written, i dont know who you work for but maybe when the dust settles he may reconsider his decision, after all, good drivers are hard to come by and if before this incident you and he had a good working relationship things may now be different, time is a great healer…

Kind regards

Lrm

Well by my calculations 25kg is just over 4 boxes of 120x50g pouches= over 480 pouches, lol, not surprising you lost it
If you had only half a box 3kg,as per guidelines,or just over of all the same brand, they wouldn’t of bothered you,

I used to do double manned for years ,we would on most occasions bring in a full box, 120x50g,=6kg, or a bit over ,plus around a box of cigs too (5000) , as we are both allowed 3200 each, before they can start asking questions, we also got checked by the belgian, french douane and the c&e here, never lost the booty or truck furthest it ever went was are these for personal consumption?
I think it’s Dependant on who stops you,and how you come across to em,

i even asked one of them at dover one day if i did a trip in a car,and got stopped with say a box of cigs and a box of rolling tobacco would i loose it, as if i wasn’t in the job anymore for me to travel from the north of england to belgie to buy my gear, the cost to me in fuel and the ferry tickets would otherwise outway the savings, that was around 3-4years ago ,i would need double now,lol

as the cost these days in Belgium is around £45-46 a carton of 200 and the tobacco isn’t far of that for 10x50g pouches, btw they used to be a bit cheaper in holland,

Just to update the current prices:

£79.00 for 1 kg of GV in the first shop Westbound in Baccy alley Addinkerke two weeks ago.

£156.79 on P & O ferries Dover Calais

SBD

stopped in addinkerke yesterday and was told by the guy in the tabbaco warehouse that belguim dont import regal king size ciggies anymore and haven’t done for about 2 months  :imp:

so ended up with L+B’s :unamused: :unamused:

I remember when i started doing euro work i used to smoke L&B’s but they aren’t sold over there apart from lux and the tobacco wholesale at adinkerke and veurne ,and spain so i started smoking B&H gold as these i found to be sold in france and germany in shops and services as well ,so if unable to buy in bulk i still could get a pack or 2 of something smokable, All i can say is with the prices of them now i’m glad i gave them up

how much would you have got for each pouch?

how much would you have got for each pouch?

Mate of mine in Grantham pays £6.50 per 50 gramme pouch. The further north you travel, the more expensive it gets. At them rates I dare say the baccy would’ve earned more than the truck on that trip.

http://www.realtobacco.be/pub/products/tobacco/ price list 10x50g=£37.50 for gv or if that price is outdated £39.50 for 10 50g pouches =1pkt =£474.00 per 120x50g / 6kg box P&O ferries are still ripping off the tourists then, lol,i would never buy on the boat, too expensive, if i got cigs they would be from behind the bars and drivers lounge as they where cheaper than the so called duty free shop
oh and up here in the north west the going rate is only£6.00 -£6.50 depending where it comes from,
