Brigde heights/strikes

i have a had a curtainsider the last couple of days which is once i na blue moon for me.i notedthe height at 14.7 or 4.5 as it says on head board i loaded out of buxton water coem down missed the ashbounre turn off.so carried on id already noted that there was a brigde at matlock that was 15ft so knew i was ok to get under that.saw signs just before town saying 15ft carried on through town about 200 yards before brigde board flashes im to high i knew i was not carried on got to i drop air to be sure and sailed through no problem.
now ive seen a few posts on fb about a brigde strike in stourbrigde in the last week.so why when warnign signs flash up saying turn back 100/200 yards from brigde.but u can not because there is no room at all.at matlock there is plenty of space to install these signs before entrying the high street so u can turn left and head back out of town.but why do they flash even if u know ur trl is low enough to get under it by 5 inches or more.
yes i shoulf of took more notice and took the ashbourne road to be safe.and before some says buy a satnav with trl heights no i do not want one as i can read maps and i plan my route before setting off and look a google earth for any brigdes if i got a curtain on.which is rare as i do mainly flats and know the height of stuff im carrying but most os below the cab height.i do not need some voice telling how to get to places i have a brain

My guess to why they put the sensor at the bridge is for a last warning as I’m sure on the approach to the bridge there was a few signs saying low bridge with the height but I know these sensors ain’t the best especially in the rain

It’s the you’ff of today writing in text type speech, the use of proper English is a thing of the past.

I was sorting through some stuff in the garage & came across a bag full of old AtoZ books from my driving days, after thirty odd years of driving I can barely make out the print where as not long ago I could read them at arms length. :open_mouth:
I never had a bridge strike in all those years and I had double deck trailers mixed in with every height of tautliners you could think of.

I did buy a HGV SatNav recently out of curiosity (I’m retired now) an XGody thing off ebay, I would have loved one when I was on the road, I can attest to not particular liking the voice instructions too but it was accurate using it in car mode.

You’ve got to love the technology of today though. :sunglasses:

Bloody hell let’s hope this does not transverse over to books, I found this incredibly difficult to read.
