Bridgestone tyres

Has anyone else got the new R Drive and R Steer tyres? Have you noticed any increased tread wear on the drives? We had M729 tyres up to the 63 regs. They were good for over 200 thousand. These new ones are eating tread very quickly. We’ve got 63’s on 160k with more tread than 64s on 60k :open_mouth:

No but then mine are only 3 months old.

I will look out for it in the future.

I was looking at a stable mate of mine today though. (Different firm, same yard.) He took delivery of his 1 week after mine and I did clock his Bridgestone R tyres this morning and thought to myself, “■■■■ Mr, they look worn and tatty already”…

Apparently they don’t do the 729’s anymore, I wonder why :unamused: Now my boss is on the look out for something else to try. We had a problem with some Bridgestone lifts a few years ago, so we tried contis and miches, but couldn’t get the milage. He won’t have cuts or remoulds as it affects the sale price, and we’d always been happy with the bridges until now. The funny thing is, the steer tyres are doing better than the old ones :open_mouth:

Just had the R steers replaced on my front axle 80k on the clock on the nose. Guess what they put on? M729’s!

I’ll post back in another 80k and let you know which ones last longer

By the way I hate the way these new tyres feel, I was wobbling all over the show coming down the M1, felt very squirrely, not at all relaxing to drive. Hopefully either they settle in, or I stop being such a delicate fanny!

That’s the massive tread “blocks” F-reds, like anything you’ll get used to it in less than a hundred miles. I always get the feeling that I’m drifting when the drive axle ones especially get changed.

It’s like riding a race bike on full wets tbh.

Glad it’s not just me, I could barely drink my cup of coffee as I was meandering down the motorway

My mate used to have the most apt description of trying to control your lorry on a new set of drive axle tyres, like driving a plate of spaghetti.
