Apparently a bridge doesn’t even need to be a low one to trouble our erstwhile heroes…

3.281 feet in a metre for those who don’t know.Or, 4.3m is 14" 10’ give or take.
Give or take
You might want to check the figures given you’re about to be let loose on the roads with trailers, or you too may become the next bridge basher to be slated here
Don’t try and take a 14’ 10" under a 4.3 m bridge, or it may get a bit messy
4.3m is 14’ 1.3" and 14’ 10" is 4.57m give or take

Keep peeps… Stick together… Apart from the obvious numptys HGV drivers run the gauntlet of bridge signs that that understate the height of the bridge… Drivers lose their jobs, the business gets humpt and after the event a study reveals the bridge was too low… Singh the petition and stick up for eachother petition.parliament.uk/petitions/154823Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Why would we worry about a bridge signage showing the bridge as higher than it actually is?
Hypothetically, I hit a bridge, I’m not a twonk(most of the time) so I know I haven’t just driven under a bridge that is lower than my height that I measured before I set my height indicator. So that means the very first thing I’m doing after I hear the tin opening of the roof, is the actual height of the bridge…
If its wrong then my insurance company are going to be jumping for joy because they won’t have to pay out for train delays, bridge inspections, and damage to my trailer or truck. They are going to be recouping all costs from whichever body is responsible for the correct signage on the bridge!
I won’t be getting any points, or a fine, or invited to any meetings with the TC, i’d be sitting there laughing my ■■■ off and back to work tomorrow.

Hi, I meant overstates the height of the bridge… The investigations are retrospective and TfL by their own admission have no obligation to report their findings… It’s all to do with sag curve… The petition is worth supporting

Ok so either the bridge is taller than marked, if you hit it having correct signage wont help. Or its not as tall as marked, in which case see my previous response… I just don’t see the point…

Naw. That smacks of the inability to read the sign that said:
“Unsuitable for Heavy Goods Vehicles.”
or…
6’6" Width Restriction

the point is why are the government and other organisations willing to allow avoidable bridge strikes to occur which could injure drivers and damage a companies reputation. Then after the event complete investigations which are then swept under the carpet until the next driver hits another bridge and so on… It’s all one ripping into one and other but it’s like battery hens pecking at eachother because the farmer couldn’t give a ■■■■ about the size of the cage

Ok makes sense now. I see your point. Do you have any evidence of these investigations being swept under the carpet? I’m not trying to knock what you are trying to achieve, I’m just interested in your source material.

Bit of a shaky start, no thanks to me but thank you for considering my point of view on this. If you go to pro-tect-solutions.com/pro-repor … st-happen/ you can find a bit more info on our investigation and responses from TfL. Let me know your thoughts, if you wish there is also a subscribe button for out transport updates and you are very welcome to leave your thoughts and comments on the site too.

I keep looking at this and wondering what the bloody hell was the driver thinking?
To me this is worse than hitting a low bride, as at least that can be put down to being absent minded…
But with this, judging from the picture, I just don’t know where to start!

The end of the bridge he come in on is where i would start

Crap driving would be a good point to start with I reckon.
More seriously, someone at stobby must have deemed the person who did this as competent to be allowed out in one of the vehicles, does no-one upstairs at these companies have a bloody clue what’s going on at the coal face inside their own business, is their choice of middle management and admin working out.
It keeps coming back to terms and conditions, those who offer class leading contracts and treat their staff with respect don’t find these events happening, pay the right rate and you can pick and choose to avoid the monkeys.
Not saying things didn’t go wrong back in the days when lorries needed a lorry driver to get them going, but automation it must be said isn’t working out all that well either, the less they have to do the more drivers seem to switch off and let the vehicle do it for them, bridge ahead? so what they should have provided me with an app so i couldn’t stuff the lorry through it…

I suspect it may also come down to the scheduling which I believe is typical there. Someone doing a 15 hour day starting at crazy-o’clock, and rushing his pants off along unfamiliar roads, and quite possibly a novice, is more likely to end up crashing like that.
I heard during the disciplinary, he kept stonewalling.

When asked if he was worried about getting sacked, he said he’d cross that bridge when he came to it!
Or did the damage the bridge to kill the Troll that lived underneath

Good grief, you mean he had a rock solid defence? I wouldn’t have liked to put my head above the parapet after that - there must have been a lot of fallout.
Hmmnn…mortar this than meets the eye.
