Bridge strike with a twist

This is the follow on in local rag ( grantham journal ) of lots more bridge strikes ,this incident was in last weeks issue ,this week there on about having led signs which will warn drivers there too high .
But this last paragraph caught my eye ,this bridge strike I think waslast week .
Two boxes of plant seedlings that fell off a lorry that struck barrowby road railway bridge last Monday are still littering the side of the road .
Cornwall based haulage company Conway Bailey transport which had sub- contracted the load to another haulage company told the journal last week they accepted responsibility for removal of the boxes and South Kesteven district council said it was treating the matter as FLY- TIPPING :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :unamused: .
Ffs the company have said theyl get the boxes moved ,what more do they want :exclamation: :exclamation:

The company have had long enough to move them so what’s your problem why should the council (rate payers) pay to clear up the mess.

I guess they want the company to actually move them instead of just saying they will. How long does it take to sort out getting someone to shift two boxes? Maybe the threat of a fine from the council will actually make them get off their arses and deal with the matter.

Took us over a week to get a forklift to Lockerbie truckstop to reload some packs of chipboard the scots guys had thrown about. Saying that though they are about 4.5 tonnes a pack.

The trouble with “bridge line technology” is that you know the council with set the threshold lower than is needed causing lorries that would be fine to go under to be brought to a halt with the resultant gridlock this would cause.

Just like the bridge on the A96 north of Inverurie. There are signs at the roundabout where Morrisons is saying the bridge is 14 foot 6 inch when actually it’s about 15 foot 3 inch and there is a diversion route of about 8 mile around it.
They’ve done this because it’s an arched bridge on an s bend where you have to get it just right to get through otherwise you have hit it. Mind you its controlled by traffic lights and its single lane through the bridge so you can take it steady.

The bridge at stubbins lane ramsbottom near sca is always good for a laugh, on a bend with railings at 14’3" and arched single lane narrow with huge kerbs. That holds some battle scars

Just been past this morning… boxes are still there!

I came out in a cold sweat when I seen Dozy and bridge strike in the title but alas nothing to worry about.

How long will it be before we have a “Bridge Rights Advisor” and the word “Max” as in “Max Headroom” is banned, because it implies Germanic authority?

Please consider the height of the following overstructure before proceeding.
“This bridge is 1390cm high, that’s 412.5inches in your new host country’s language which we’d like you to adopt usage of on a regular public basis.”

How many bridges get hit because the driver can’t convert between imperial and metric?

Arent imperial road signs against E.U. LAW.

First thing I’d do in a bridge strike was measure the bloody thing.
How many councils relay the tarmac without digging down far enough.
There are some instances where a couple of inches mean the difference between a smiley face and a wrecked trailer.

I am surprised that the locals haven’t had them away by now.

I know the bridge well. Rossendale transport (as it was) put me through my pcv in 2002, in training bridges are brought up over and over again (as they should be). However first day out in one of their deckers on a route that goes through there makes your arse twitch because they were something like 14’6"
When pulled over to phone the traffic office get told “oh no your ok there because the road is dug out, don’t worry”.

All distance and speed signs in the UK are imperial measurement and I think all bridge signs are in ft and inches although many also have a metric equivalent especially if they’re around 4m.
And then just to prove the UK can’t decide what measurement system to use, if your vehicle is over 3m high you need a sign in the cab show the height in Feet and Inches

No doubt if he did hit a bridge it would be Network Rail’s fault for putting the bridge in his way

I’ve only ever had 1 incident with a bridge in grantham ,washed unit at Irlams old yard on harlaxton rd ,set off down to town ,got harlaxton rd bridge ,had a brainstorm and drove under bridge in my lane :open_mouth: :open_mouth: ,I don’t know why but it suddenly hit me ,swerved for centre of bridge ( poor bloke comming other way must of ■■■■ himself ) ,
I don’t know whether it was I was Bob- tail or what ,but never did it whilst pulling tri ,automatically went for centre of bridge

I like the way you say that dozy, as it kind of begs the question. What incidents have you had with bridges in other places?

Free the dozy 1 - I’m rooting for you brother!

Sod that
my route to sca means under the bridge nd turn right, not a chance in my rather tail long rigid and hight dependent on the flt I have on the back, going down that hill into the town to avoid the bridge is a niggle but coming back fully loaded up that hill is interesting in the wet or ice :open_mouth:
