Bridge strike Gathurst

Gathurst 12" arch

To be fair not many trucks would get under a 12 inch bridge

Inexcusable really well signposted from way back.

I’m assuming that should say a 12 ft arch bridge. What a clown obviously not very good at reading signs.

 would have to be one hell of a limbo to walk underneath it as well.

I don’t get it, I really don’t! Every time I approach a low bridge even if the sign says 15’ 11", I always double check my height marker in the cab (I check and change it with each trailer swap, although we normally run at 13’ 9" it would be just my luck if one was 2 inch higher) I also approach the bridge at a reduced speed (more so if its a tight fit with only 2 inch spare). If I was really that unsure I would get out and look. The cost and consequences of hitting a bridge must be HUGE.

On another note, some low bridges around Brixton don’t have a height marker until your uppon the bridge with no turning space.

If push comes to shove ,remember you can always dump the air out the suspension to get that couple of inches

Bet he’s taken the height of the trailer and not the highest point of the vehicle …the air kit :unamused:

Nedlloyd container on Volvo = approximately 13ft 4ins…on Scania = approximately 13ft 6ins…

that won’t really work Ade, he’s got a 20’ container, which, centrally mounted on a slider normally sits at 13’ 5"

mind you, he’s also in a Scrapia, which sits higher on the rear, so, it would be 13’ 7"

I can’t believe that anyone would try that under that bridge!
I can understand how someone may forget the height, or simply not see it etc and wallop the bridge, but to actually see it as he has obviously done and then continue to try it anyway is just ridiculous.
Did he REALLY think that he MIGHT get under it?

Yeah I know but hopefully it will never come to that. I wouldn’t try a 13’ 8" bridge, with a 13’ 9" combination anyway, even if it probably would go under 99% of the time because of the allowances most bridges have (apparently).

Most of our trailers change back to the level position when you start moving, I don’t know if it is once over a certain speed though.

He (or she) probably thought “Hm, not sure about this, but I’ll give it a bash anyway, see what happens.”

looking at the pic the container looks just clear tight

Oh dear. Like everyone else, I cannot fathom why you’d try to do this!!

Very strange and rather unprofessional it has to be said.

Should print this out and plaster it all over Ferrybridge services so the sad ■■■■■■■ spotters that walk around the lorry park having their pictures taken in front of eddie’s can have a look. lol

Have we put this on the stobart pics thread CG

if that is a 12’ bridge, not a chance will it go under

I would concur with that comment… never in a million years, plus the driver wants sacking for trying.
